Hi Kikue, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’m Kikue, the Lead Clinician at Fiora Aesthetics, a boutique medspa in Solana Beach, California. SDVoyager actually interviewed me after Fiora took off in May 2024, when I wasn’t just starting a medspa – I was taking one of the biggest risks of my life – so I want to first thank you for all your support throughout this journey! When I started, I left the comfort of stability to chase a vision: creating a place where self-care feels personal, approachable, and cosmetic injectables are empowering, not seen as shameful.
A year and a half later, Fiora has grown into a true community. Our Fiora Members aren’t just clients – they’re friends. I seriously love every single one of them, and love being a partner in their beauty and wellness journey. Watching people come in nervous for their first consultation and grow into confident, empowered versions of themselves really fuels me. At Fiora, we re-write the negative stigma that used to come with injectables. So, to answer your question, we got where we are today by challenging that negative stigma – by helping people feel amazing in their own skin. When newcomers realize our treatment plans amplify their natural allure without looking overdone, it brings a whole new level of confidence and possibility.
I personally got where I am today by doing the scary things anyway, trusting the process, and surrounding myself with people who lift me higher. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing – it’s been proof that when you look fear in the eyes and do the thing anyways, incredible things happen.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course it hasn’t been a smooth road, but nothing worth it is easy. The biggest struggle has been getting comfortable with being uncomfortable. I’ve always been good at this, but running a business is on a whole other level because it requires constant adaptability.
Most of the challenges aren’t technical, they’re mental. For me, that looked like shifting from being an introvert to an extrovert, constantly engaging, showing up, and putting myself out there online and in person. You really have to be unapologetically authentic and outgoing, which sounds great in theory but is challenging in ways you wouldn’t expect. In the end, it attracts the clientele you just vibe with, which feels amazing.
At the end of the day, discomfort is proof you’re in the arena actually doing the work. Rewiring this mindset to be on 24/7 was a struggle, but it’s also exactly why Fiora Aesthetics exploded into what it is today. If you want the dream, you have to be willing to face challenges and keep moving forward.

To me, this is what all businesses should be about: asking, ‘How can I serve you in the best way possible, so you feel your best and want to keep coming back?’ and then helping clients appreciate the value in that. You can always tell when a business – whether it’s a restaurant, gym, or medspa – just wants your money, and once that’s taken, the care ends. You probably won’t go back. You know where you do go back to? The places – restaurants, coffee shops, nail salons, hair stylists – that treat you right and leave you feeling great.
