Check out Arlisa Holloman’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Arlisa Holloman.

Arlisa, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have been an entrepreneur for many years. I previously owned a handbag business and needed images for my website. Handbags are constantly changing and so were the images on my website.  Therefore, it made sense for me to purchase a camera to photograph my own products.  Little did I know that purchase would lead to so much more.

I recall signing up for a Beginners Meet Up group to learn the fundamentals of this confusing camera that I had recently purchased. Well, that Beginners Meet Up group led me to other groups in that my love and passion for photography started to blossom.  I became so addictive to learning that I signed up for classes online, workshops, and photography clubs.  After product photography, I switched over to landscape photography until I realized that I wanted more than images of landscapes.

I went to my first Portrait Meet Up group which was with Shut Up and Shoot Raw.  I loved everything about the art of portrait photography.  So, I began shooting with other portrait photographers to gain more insight on this type of photography.  I did a lot of “trade for prints” with models to try different lighting techniques.  I soon knew that this was my niche.  Needless to say, I sold my handbag business and put more time and energy into my photography.

I find that photographing expecting mothers, fashion, and things surrounding life and love are my passion. We are all beautifully created and unique in our own way, so capturing a person and telling their story with a camera is just amazing.

I also like being creative and using props in my images.  I started creating vision boards based on seeing people in various places wearing different attires with a variety of props. The vision board helps in bringing the creative look together.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
When people see my photography, it is my hopes that they see the inspiration, love, and work behind each image. Whether I am capturing a person playing an instrument on the beach, a person in a designer maternity gown, or a headshot of a woman adorned in jewelry, it is my hopes that the viewer can see that each image has its own personality.  I like to showcase the mother to be so that she feels beautiful inside as well as outside. So when I get a message from a viewer that the maternity shoot made them want to have a baby or because the photo makes pregnancy look very beautiful, that lets me know that the message was received.

The sterotype of a starving artist scares away many potentially talented artists from pursuing art – any advice or thoughts about how to deal with the financial concerns an aspiring artist might be concerned about?
The advice I would give to anyone who may face financial challenges is to not give up on their dream. If you have to create another stream of income until your business is successful, don’t be too proud to do so. Just remember that there is light at the end of the tunnel. One day someone will pay you for what your art is worth.  It can’t get any better than that – – getting paid for doing what you love to do!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
