We recently had the chance to connect with Absorbingpersona and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Absorbingpersona, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
I’ve recognized as an artist, rushing does more harm than good. If I released songs before they were ready or jumped into constant opportunity without processing, the work wouldn’t be as authentic. At the same time, I’m aware moving too slow can make chances slip. For me, it’s about being intentional with my craft while still maintaining balance.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I go by Absorbingpersona, and my sound lives in the space between dark pop, alt pop, with touches of R&B and jazz. I’m a singer, songwriter, and vocal engineer who’s grown into producing, mixing, and mastering my own work. I’m currently finishing my third EP, a project that captures intimacy and intensity while reflecting my growth as a self-sufficient artist. My purpose is to create unfiltered music that helps people process difficult times, and my brand embodies that through a dark feminine raw energy.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
I’m letting go of the version of me that second guessed the path I was meant to walk and my identity. I’ve moved past worrying about whether I’m ‘talented’ or not, because at the end of the day, I’m either going to do the thing or regret not doing it. The more I create, the better I get, not because I’m competing with anyone, but because I’m focused on improving my skills. I’ve released the belief that I can’t push myself to learn because the knowledge I gain will always shape the vision and help in collaborations. At my core, I never gave up because, spiritually, music has been the one way I could process life, survive it, and stay here.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I stopped masking pain once my writing began turning into songs. The more I created, the more I realized a lot of good music can’t exist without it and that my art wouldn’t exit without it. In many ways, making music has transformed some of the hardest moments of my life into something positive. Each project holds not just the struggle, but the growth and memories that came from creating it.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
One of the biggest lies the industry tells itself is that everybody enjoys the same kind of music. Mainstream trends come and go, but so often they push artists into sounding identical, the same vocal style, the same beat elements until someone finally breaks the mold and a new trend takes over. I wish there was more recognition that multiple styles can exist at once and still be popular. Another lie is that emotion doesn’t matter, when in reality, music without real emotion doesn’t connect. People don’t fall in love with analytic formulas, they fall in love with relatable transparency.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Creating as Absorbingpersona is what I was meant to do, it’s where my soul led me. Music was actually the opposite of what I was told to do. Growing up, I was ridiculed for being terrible, and instead of encouragement, people would rather I stop. There’s this false belief that music is only a gift you’re born with, and if you’re not instantly good, you’re not meant for it. People don’t like to believe that someone who starts off terrible can grow into someone great.
I was discouraged for years, until I reached a moderate skill level, and suddenly people changed their minds. That’s the reality for many creatives, people want to break you when you’re upfront about your identity, especially in a field that isn’t easy. But I’ve always held awareness and with time came the acceptance of this is what I was born to do, and since then I’ve refused to let anyone take that from me.
