We recently had the chance to connect with Adolfo Lopez and have shared our conversation below.
Adolfo, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Absolutely! One of the most rewarding moments is when customers pass by our booth on market days, show us wallets they bought years ago, and ask if we were the ones who made them. Seeing how beautifully the leather has aged and hearing how much they still love it fills us with pride.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
We are a husband and wife small business here in San Diego. We make leather goods with 70-80% using upcycle leather from our local beautiful city.. we make different size wallets, passport holders catch all trays and many small leather goods. We just have a bit over a year making leather belts where we custom size on the spot.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed that having more than enough money would guarantee happiness. While money can provide a sense of security, it doesn’t ensure fulfillment. True happiness comes from the people you surround yourself with and living a life aligned with your purpose.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Absolutely, when I first started our small business 7-8 years ago. Thanx to my supporting wife we were able to find our market and also our sale market.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes we try to be as transparent as possible and we live a very simple life but with lots of love and joy.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. When do you feel most at peace?
Being with my wife before we fall asleep. We try to resolve any issues, or misunderstandings before we go to bed. (We rarely have those)
