An Inspired Chat with Amanda Darosett of San Diego

Amanda Darosett shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Amanda , thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Are you walking a path—or wandering?
I am walking a path—one that God has placed before me, guided by both passion and purpose. I first fell in love with photography in high school, where I learned to develop film and create prints in the darkroom. That experience opened my eyes to the beauty of capturing life through a lens, and over the years, that spark has grown into a lifelong journey.

Photography has never been just a career for me—it’s a calling. I believe the Lord gave me this gift so I could use it to capture beauty, tell stories, and serve others. Every step of my journey has been shaped by faith. Even in seasons of uncertainty, I’ve learned that God was still working—teaching, refining, and preparing me for what was ahead.

Over the years, my path has taken me through many seasons—weddings, families, branding portraits, and now a strong focus on architecture and real estate. Each season has not only developed my skills but also deepened my heart for the people and places I photograph.

Today, when I step behind the camera, I feel His presence in the work I do—whether I’m photographing a home, a brand, or a family. I don’t see myself as wandering aimlessly; I’m walking with intention, trusting that every client, every project, and every opportunity is part of God’s plan. My path isn’t always straight, but it’s purposeful—because I know Who I’m walking with.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Amanda, and I’m a Southern California photographer specializing in architecture, real estate, branding, and family photography. For me, photography isn’t just about taking pictures—it’s about capturing the essence of a story, whether that’s the warmth of a home, the vision behind a brand, or the love within a family.

I first fell in love with photography in high school when I learned to develop film in the darkroom. That early experience taught me to slow down, pay attention to details, and see the world differently through a lens. Over the years, my journey has taken me through many seasons—weddings, families, children, branding, and now a strong focus on architecture and real estate, which has always been a passion of mine.

What makes my work unique is the way I blend creativity with intention. I see photography as a calling and a gift from God, and I approach each project with purpose. My goal is to not just take beautiful images, but to serve people—to help a family hold onto a memory, to help a business tell its story, or to help a realtor showcase a property in its best light.

Right now, I’m especially focused on real estate and branding photography. I love photographing high-end luxury apartments, homes, and spaces, while also working with entrepreneurs to create branding images that truly represent who they are. At the same time, being a mother of two daughters has shaped my heart for capturing authentic, meaningful moments that will be cherished for years to come.

At the core of my brand is faith, authenticity, and a love for people. Every photo I take feels like part of a bigger journey—not just for me, but for the clients I get to walk alongside.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is my relationship with God. My faith is the foundation of who I am—not just as a photographer, but as a woman, a mother, and a business owner. Walking with Him has taught me that my identity isn’t defined by circumstances or titles, but by being His daughter. That truth has given me strength in difficult seasons and clarity in following the path He has set before me.

Equally, being a mother to my two daughters has shaped me in ways I could never have imagined. They inspire me to keep going, to grow, and to live with authenticity and purpose. I want them to see me not only as someone who pursues her passion, but as someone who trusts God, works with integrity, and builds a life rooted in love and faith.

Together, my relationship with God and my daughters has taught me resilience, deepened my compassion, and shaped the way I approach both life and photography. They remind me that my work is more than just images—it’s about creating something lasting, meaningful, and true.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has taught me lessons that success never could. In the hardest seasons of my life, I learned how deeply I needed to lean on God. Pain has a way of stripping away distractions and revealing what truly matters. It taught me humility, patience, and dependence—not on my own strength, but on His.

Through suffering, I also discovered resilience. I realized that I could walk through storms and still move forward, not because everything was easy, but because I wasn’t walking alone. Those seasons shaped my character in ways success never could—they deepened my compassion, sharpened my perspective, and reminded me that joy isn’t found in circumstances, but in faith and hope.

Success can feel rewarding, but it doesn’t refine you the way trials do. Suffering taught me to appreciate small victories, to value authenticity over appearances, and to find gratitude in the simplest blessings. It gave me a heart for others who are struggling, and it taught me to use my story—and even my photography—as a way to bring encouragement, light, and beauty into the lives of others.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that God weaves everything in our lives together for a greater purpose—even when we can’t see it in the moment. There have been seasons in my life that felt broken, confusing, or uncertain, and yet, looking back, I can see how those moments were preparing me for where I am today.

I can’t prove it in a tangible sense, but I know in my heart that nothing is wasted. The challenges, the delays, the detours—they all become part of a bigger story. I believe every person we meet, every door that opens (or closes), every opportunity that comes our way is connected to a plan far greater than we could imagine.

For me, this belief keeps me grounded in trust. It helps me move forward even when I don’t have all the answers, and it allows me to see my photography not just as work, but as a gift that fits into that greater purpose.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am doing what I was born to do. From the time I first picked up a camera in high school and learned to develop film in the darkroom, I knew photography was more than just a hobby—it was part of who I am. Over the years, there were people who told me I wouldn’t make it as a photographer, that it wasn’t a “real career,” or that I should choose something more practical. There was doubt all around me, but I couldn’t ignore the passion God placed in my heart.

Despite the challenges, I pressed forward and built a career doing what I love. Photography has taken me through so many seasons—weddings, families, branding, and now architecture and real estate—and each one has reaffirmed that this is where I’m meant to be. I wasn’t created to follow someone else’s script; I was created to walk the path God laid out for me.

For me, success isn’t just measured by achievements or recognition—it’s measured by the joy of knowing I am living out my calling. Every time I step behind the camera, I feel aligned with what I was born to do: to capture beauty, tell stories, and use my gift to serve others.
