An Inspired Chat with Christophe Willm of Sorrento Valley

Christophe Willm shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Christophe, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day are a mix of intention and controlled chaos, just the way I like it. I usually start early with a strong espresso (French roots, non-negotiable), a few quiet moments to review the day ahead, and some creative brainstorming while the house is still quiet. Then it’s off to school drop-off with our son, a part of the day I truly enjoy before diving into emails, timelines, and creative direction with my wife and business partner Heather. Our mornings are a mix of business, family, and creative flow, which is honestly what I love most about our life and work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! I’m Christophe, and together with my wife Heather, we run Willmus Weddings, a full-service wedding planning, photography, and videography company based in San Diego since 2015. We’re a husband-and-wife team who live and breathe weddings. Heather plans with elegance and precision, and I capture the story with an editorial, cinematic eye. Our tagline is basically “She plans, he captures” and it works because we truly complement each other, both creatively and in life. Today, Willmus Weddings has become the most reviewed wedding planners in San Diego, which makes us true wedding experts.

What makes our brand unique is that we offer a seamless, all-in-one experience that feels elevated but never out of reach. We’re all about thoughtful design, calm energy, and storytelling that feels real. We’ve worked with couples from all over the world and now, we’re also expanding our destination wedding offerings in France during the summer months, which ties into my French background and gives our clients something truly special.

At the heart of it, we love helping couples feel calm, seen, and completely themselves on their wedding day. We don’t just show up with a camera or clipboard, we become part of the story, and that’s what makes it so meaningful to us.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Without a doubt, my relationship with Heather has shaped how I see myself more than any other. Being married, parenting together, and running a business side by side has shown me who I am, not just as a partner or creative, but as a human. We balance each other out in a way that’s honest and constant. Her vision, her calm, her belief in people. It challenges me to lead with both heart and clarity. It’s also taught me that building something meaningful, whether it’s a family or a brand, is always a team effort.

She sees me fully and in doing so, has helped me see myself more clearly, too.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Honestly, no. There have been hard days, exhausting weeks, and moments of deep doubt but never a time I truly considered giving up. I’m deeply rooted in what I do, and even when the challenges come (and they always do), there’s something in me that keeps moving forward. I don’t romanticize the grind, but I do believe in showing up, especially when it matters most. That mindset, plus the support of my wife and creative partner, makes giving up feel like it’s just never been on the table.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes, absolutely, but it’s curated, like most things in our industry. The public version of me is real, just more edited. What you see is my genuine energy, creativity, and love for what I do, but maybe with less of the behind-the-scenes chaos (hello, email pile and school lunch duty). I think being authentic doesn’t mean sharing everything, it means being consistent in who you are, whether you’re with a client, on camera, or just showing up to do the work with heart.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you retired tomorrow, what would your customers miss most?
If I retired tomorrow, I think our clients would miss the feeling that they’re truly seen, heard, and taken care of, not just as clients, but as people. They’d miss the calm energy we bring to what can be a chaotic process, the creative eye that captures moments they didn’t even know were happening, and the sense of trust that lets them actually enjoy their day.

And maybe… they’d also miss the French accent, just a little. 😉
