An Inspired Chat with Dr. Ericka Olson of Bankers HIll

We recently had the chance to connect with Dr. Ericka Olson and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Ericka, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, dance has been bringing me so much joy. It’s always been a deep passion of mine, but recently it’s become even more meaningful. Dance allows me to reconnect with my body in a way that feels both grounding and liberating. It helps me express emotions that don’t always have words—and in that movement, I find release. There’s something powerful about letting the music move through you and shake loose the feelings we tend to hold onto. As someone who helps others process and release stored tension and emotion through acupuncture, dance has become my own form of healing.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Dr. Ericka Olson, licensed acupuncturist and founder of Wisdom & Flow Acupuncture in San Diego. I work with women—especially those in their 30s to 60s—who are feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, hormonally out of sync, or just not quite like themselves. Whether you’re navigating perimenopause, dealing with anxiety or digestive issues, or feeling burned out from carrying so much, my goal is to help you feel more grounded, energized, and at home in your body again.

In addition to internal wellness, I also specialize in cosmetic acupuncture and microneedling—gentle, natural treatments that support healthy aging, improve skin tone, and help women feel more confident in their skin. It’s about looking refreshed, yes—but even more than that, it’s about reconnecting with how you feel when you see yourself in the mirror.

What makes my work unique is how I weave together the physical and emotional layers of healing. I take time to understand what’s really going on beneath the surface and create a space where women feel deeply cared for. Right now, I’m especially passionate about helping women move through burnout and hormonal transitions with more support, ease, and flow.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I was often told I was too sensitive—too emotional, too affected by what was happening around me. For a long time, I believed that was a flaw. But over the years, I’ve come to understand that my sensitivity is actually one of my greatest strengths. It allows me to connect deeply with others, to really feel what people are going through, and to show up with compassion and presence in my work.

The key for me was learning how to stay empathetic and hold healthy boundaries. Once I figured that out, my sensitivity became something I could trust and even rely on. It’s what allows me to hold space for my patients with care, without taking on what isn’t mine to carry. What I once thought made me “too much” is now the heart of who I am—and a big part of what makes me effective as a healer.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her to trust herself. Your intuition is real, and it will guide you—so don’t quiet it to fit in. It’s okay to be different. You don’t have to follow the path everyone else is on to end up where you’re meant to be. Walk with confidence, even when you’re unsure. You’re more capable, more loved, and more powerful than you realize.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe in the deep healing power of acupuncture and Eastern medicine—even in the ways that science hasn’t fully been able to measure or explain. I see it every day in my practice: people come in feeling stuck, exhausted, anxious, or disconnected, and after just a few treatments, something shifts. Their body starts to open, their nervous system settles, their skin glows, their symptoms ease—and it’s not always something you can capture in a lab result or a clinical trial.

There’s a depth and wisdom to this medicine that goes beyond what we can quantify. It’s subtle, powerful, and deeply intuitive. Just because we can’t always “prove” how it works in scientific terms doesn’t make it any less real. I’ve seen too many transformations to believe otherwise.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What light inside you have you been dimming?
If I’m being honest, I’ve spent a lot of my life dimming my sense of worthiness. There’s a part of me that has believed I need to do more, give more, or work harder to prove I’m enough. It’s a pattern that so many women carry—especially those of us who care deeply and want to help others.

But I’m learning that worthiness isn’t something we earn. It’s something we already have, just by being here. I don’t have to hustle for it—and neither do the women I work with. That light—that quiet knowing that we are already whole and deserving—is something I’m choosing to let shine more fully, both in my life and in my practice.
