An Inspired Chat with Eric Racicot of La Jolla, California

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Eric Racicot. Check out our conversation below.

Eric, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
The T-Rex Dinosaur Museum Skeleton Lego set.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Eric Racicot Photography is a vivid tribute to the soul of San Diego where golden sunrises meet the rhythm of the surf and palm trees sway in the ocean breeze. As a professional photographer for over nine years, I have captured the coastal magic that defines Southern California, blending vibrant natural light with unique perspectives that feel both timeless and refreshingly original.

What began as a coffee shop recommendation from a best friend back in 2016, quickly turned into a passion and evolved into a social media global presence. Within two years, my old Instagram page exploded to over 50,000 followers, drawing in people from around the world who resonated with my photography and the thoughtful song lyrics often paired with each image. Music remains a deep inspiration, adding emotional depth to my already compelling scenes.

In 2020 I stepped away from social media as advertising began to dilute creativity but my work continues to thrive. My palm tree portraits, now nostalgic glimpses of places that have changed or vanished, serve as timeless reminders of the, “relax, you’re in paradise” energy that defines San Diego.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I was a recent college graduate, standing at the edge of uncertainty, searching for direction in a world that suddenly felt overwhelming. San Diego’s job market was discouraging, and rejection became a constant companion—loud, relentless, and hard to ignore. Then one day, while visiting a coffee shop with my best friend in Encinitas, I snapped a simple photo on my iPhone with the train, fog, and coffee sign all in one. There was something about the way the light, color, and mood came together that sparked something in me. That single moment of creativity turned into a unique photography path in my life. With the little money I had left, I bought my first camera—no plan, just a feeling. That was the beginning of my path toward becoming a professional photographer.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Stop overthinking every scenario—life isn’t meant to be perfectly mapped out. Take more leaps of faith and trust that not knowing the outcome is part of the magic. All the moments that change everything often start with a step you’re scared to take, and you are more capable than you think. The path will reveal itself as you walk it.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
My mother, she is the light of my life that will never go out. A quiet strength, always putting others before herself, never asking for recognition. She leads even in the dark, not with loud words, but with unwavering actions.
Her character is built on selflessness, resilience, and love—the kind that holds everything together, even when no one sees it. I admire her not for any power she holds, but for the grace in how she carries everything she’s given.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had 10 years left, I’d stop worrying about everything that’s out of my control. I’d stop wasting time on “what ifs” and start focusing fully on what I have right here, right now. Focus on the people, the moments and the small joys in life. In the end it’s not about having more, it’s about being present with what already matters.
