An Inspired Chat with Karly Kent of Carlsbad

We recently had the chance to connect with Karly Kent and have shared our conversation below.

Good morning Karly, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? Who are you learning from right now?
Most of all, I’d say I’m learning from life itself. There is lessons in everything we do. Good and bad, but it’s teaching me to trust the process, even when the path isn’t perfect.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Karly, also known as Jump Rope Mom. I’m a certified fitness coach, former competitive jump roper, and mom of two who turned my passion of jumping rope into a platform to help others have fun while working out.
I started Gratitude Ropes during a really hard time in my life, jumping rope was the only thing that got me through it. That’s when I realized I could create a company that gives people not just an amazing workout with weighted ropes, but also a daily reminder to practice gratitude. It’s the small, consistent habits, like movement and gratitude that build strength, confidence, and energy at any age.

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that I’ve had to release is the one that felt like I needed to keep up with everyone else, be the best, get the most views, or prove myself through numbers. Chasing that made my mission foggy, and I realized I wasn’t doing what I love most anymore.
What truly lights me up is teaching fun skills people can add to their cardio, while keeping a healthy balance of strength and fitness workouts they can do anywhere, anytime. I had to let go of worrying about others because it was always meant to be about helping people jump rope and get fit while doing it. That’s where I feel the most aligned and fulfilled.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Going through hard times taught me that no matter how tough it feels, you’ll get through it. That’s where I really learned life lessons like patience, resilience, and perspective. Things success could never have taught me. Success feels great, but it can trick you into thinking the path should always be smooth. Going through hard times reminded me that the real growth happens in the hardest seasons. It showed me I don’t have to have it all together, that it’s okay to slow down, and that setbacks can actually be setting me up for something better.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What do you believe is true but cannot prove?
I believe that we are all capable of achieving anything we set our minds to. I can’t prove it with data, but I’ve seen it in my own life and in the people around me. I truly believe our thoughts create our reality, what we focus on consistently is what we end up building, whether good or bad. That’s why gratitude daily is so important, we will naturally create more of it in our lives.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
If I knew I had 10 years left, I’d put down the phone, stop getting lost in ‘busy work,’ and focus all my energy on creating memories with my kids and family. At the end of the day, the emails, the likes, the small distractions are meaningless, but time with the people you love is everything.
