An Inspired Chat with Kimberly Robertson of Oceanside

Kimberly Robertson shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Kimberly , it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
The first 90 minutes of my day consist of a combination of breakfast, a workout which could either be strength based, a run at the beach or a yoga class and watching something in the world of self-transformation on YouTube.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am a certified dance instructor with 24 years of teaching experience. I teach partner style dancing including Latin, Ballroom, Country, Salsa and Swing. I work with adults only. Couples who want to learn for fun or exercise, couples getting married and singles who want a new confidence building skill.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I feel like I’ve been fighting the world to be what I am forever. I never let society bring me down. Yes it affected me on an emotional level but I’ve always had a quiet strength that brought me through the difficult times. I think anyone who enters a field that is artistic or somewhat niche can relate.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes there have been a few moments where I really wanted to quit dancing, teaching, all of it. In a competitive environment, watch out for snakes in the grass. If you are doing badly you will have many “friends” in the industry , if you are starting to become successful, you will notice they start to disappear. You really have to stay true to yourself, stay aligned with your mission and purpose so this doesn’t affect you as much. It’s taken me years to really understand this.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes! People have always commented on my authenticity and no pretend persona. “What you see is what you get”. I would say this is very true. I have no need to act and would be terrible at it.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Haha well I’m not tap dancing but I’m certainly always moved by music and always excited to create and get moving at work.
