An Inspired Chat with Maryann Roberts of La Jolla

We recently had the chance to connect with Maryann Roberts and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Maryann, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My partner Chris @bullseyeguitars has been selling beautiful pre-owned guitars and basses on e-Bay for over 25 years.
He is very knowledgeable and guides his customers on what to buy next from him. Guitar players tend to rarely own just one and are always shopping for more gear!
Chris and I love music and he gave me a super cool 60’s Gibson acoustic guitar as a gift. I took a few lessons that I enjoyed but I can’t really move forward with lessons until I really master the basics. I have been practicing about five days a week now for 30 minutes. I add my practice to my calendar and I can really see the improvement from being consistent! This makes me so happy to be able to hear some nice sound coming out of this classic guitar!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m a nationwide matchmaker with Three Day Rule Matchmaking, and yes — I really do get to help people fall in love for a living! With eight years of experience, I work with busy, commitment-minded singles who are ready to meet someone amazing but don’t have the time (or patience) for endless swiping. I love being the behind-the-scenes connector who helps turn hopeful introductions into real relationships.
I am a certified “I Heart Money” coach and help singles and couples uncover their money stories. This work strengthens communication and connection around finances which can be a huge factor in breakups.
You can join our free database of singles by filling out this short form www.threedayrule.com/pool/maryann You may be a match for one of my clients!

For the holidays I am offering a a program I call “Don’t Wait to Date”’ which includes 3-heart felt personal phone sessions with me that lead to dating naturally at any age.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What’s a moment that really shaped how you see the world?
I was born and raised in Staten Island, and attending the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City completely expanded my world. I commuted to campus but always dreamed of living in the city — there was just something magnetic about it. Being surrounded by so many talented, creative people from all over the country and the world showed me what was possible and helped me see success in a much bigger way. The art, culture, and constant energy of New York lit something inside me that’s never gone out. I eventually made the move to the city at 42, and it still feels like home in the deepest sense. I’ll always love New York and the joy it’s brought not only to me, but to generations of my family before me.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Pursue your Masters or your Doctorate even if do this years after you have your Bachelor’s. Travel the world when you are young. Maybe you can even combine the two! Challenge your mind and your heart in this way and look for creative ways to fund both of these accomplishments.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
Family is everything.
I was raised to believe the bonds of family are unbreakable, which offered me a unique form of unconditional love.
For us, the family is the cornerstone, the source of our strength and resilience. My family now includes Chris and his family.
In February 2025 I visited my siblings nieces and nephews on the East Coast. I usually love to visit at least once a year. My mom was the youngest of eight siblings born in NY and we have a large family across the US now. We all love to keep in touch and see how the family is still growing!

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’ve always believed that everyone deserves to find love, and that’s why I’ve dedicated myself to matchmaking. It’s a career built on hope, but also on a firm understanding of reality. I know better than anyone that modern relationships are complex and require conscious effort to grow and flourish. Making a lasting connection isn’t easy; it takes vulnerability and commitment. My role is to help people navigate this difficult but rewarding journey, holding onto the hope that a perfect match is within their reach.
