Piatt Pund shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Piatt, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What battle are you avoiding?
I’m avoiding battling with my HOA because they put up scaffolding in front of my building with no notice. And now theres no natural light in my apartment anymore. However, the attached fluorescent flood lights that shine through my windows at night do make me feel like batman sometimes.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Piatt Pund, and I write and perform original music. I’m currently based in NYC, and have been releasing new music for the past two months. I started playing the violin when I was 4, and by 13, I was playing guitar, ukulele, and mandolin, as well as writing my own music. I released my first album in 2020 and it was nominated for a SDMA for Best Blues Album. I moved out to New York City for music school. I got my BM in Musical Theater from the Manhattan School of Music, and have been working around the world since my Freshman year. Nov of 2024 through Apr of 2025, I was working aboard a cruise ship as a singer, guitarist, and bandleader. We cruised around Central and South America, one of the most beautiful parts of the world, if not the most. when I returned, I cut my sophomore album in late April at Fraser Studios in Brooklyn, NY. “Another Drink” is the first single off of my upcoming album, and was released on July 10th. The second single, “Head Over Heels,” was released on Aug 21st. Two more singles will come out, one in October and one in December, with the whole album coming late January. In July, I went on my first tour as a solo artist. The tour spanned from Boulder, CO to San Diego, CA. Utah was such a beautiful place, I cannot wait to go back. I currently play 3-4 times a week here as a gigging musician in NYC. You can find me at The Waylon, Tooker Alley, Off The Wagon, and Peck Slip Social to name a few.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
Maybe 4 or 5 years old. My parents had a house party with people from the neighborhood and my community. I was really shy, but I always loved wearing my bright orange NASA costume from Halloween. I put it on, and went out to the party. The next thing I remember was dancing in the middle of the living room and everybody coming over to vibe. I try to carry that energy when I can.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Of course. All the time in fact. It’s a harder job than it seems. A lot of people would say that being an artists is a choice, and I do think a lot of people make that choice. Weather they dedicate themselves to the practice of being an artist is the true tell. That practice is hard, and it wears on you. Sacrifice all the time, long hours, and it can feel like shouting into a void. I wanted to quit violin so many times when I was young. It was so hard and made me feel so incapable, so many times. I do thank my parents for not letting me quit, because it taught me that the work you put in will pay off. And that’s what I tell myself pretty much everyday. I’ve done it before, why can’t I continue to?
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
I’m ultimately chasing happiness. I have huge dreams and very large aspirations for myself. But I don’t need that to be the end all for me. Life can take so many different forms, and you can obtain true purpose and freedom through living truthfully. Happiness will save the world.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
This is such a mantra for me: You simply must always give your all at each chance you have. You have no clue who’s watching you, weather that be the bartender who will become a producer in five years, or the person sitting at the table happens to work for an agency. I’ve played to empty rooms and by the end of the evening, you’ve got a full house. When you give it your all, you’ll end up creating a whole vibe that can get the room really going.
