Seyshion Garcia shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Seyshion, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: Would YOU hire you? Why or why not?
Honestly, I would hire myself without hesitation. I’m passionate about what I do, but more importantly, I’m hardworking, focused, and driven. When I commit to something, I give it my all. I’m reliable, I take initiative, and I’m always looking for ways to grow and improve. I’m also personable, which helps me connect with people, whether it’s customers, collaborators, or my community. I know how to show up, lead with integrity, and get the job done, even when things get tough. That’s the kind of person I’d want on my team.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi! My name is Seyshion, and I’m the owner of The Baby Trader, a children’s resale boutique based in San Diego. We specialize in buying, selling, and trading gently used baby and children’s clothes, gear, and toys. I started this business with a passion for community, family, and the idea that quality items can have many lives. Every item in our shop tells a story, and so does every family that walks through our doors. Right now, I’m working on my master’s degree, building our social media presence.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
I’m not sure I fully remember who I was before the world started shaping me into who it thought I should be. But lately, I’ve been on a path to find her again, that version of me who was fearless, imaginative, and unapologetically herself. Running my business has actually helped me reconnect with that part of me. It’s reminded me of my strength, creativity, and power to create something meaningful on my terms. So no, I may not remember exactly who she was, but I’m getting closer to her every day.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to stop letting the judgment of others hold me back from my full potential. You are capable of more than you realize, and you don’t need permission to shine. And that’s still something I remind my adult self of often. Growth doesn’t always look loud; sometimes it’s choosing yourself quietly, day after day. But every time you choose to keep going, even when doubt creeps in, you’re getting closer to who you’re meant to be.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Without a doubt, my closest friends would say that my family, especially being an older sister, matters most to me. That role has shaped how I lead, how I care for others, and how I show up in my business. Being an older sister taught me patience, protection, responsibility, and how to lead with compassion. Those same qualities are at the heart of how I run my boutique and connect with my community. I’ve always wanted to create a space that feels safe, supportive, and full of possibility, just like I’ve always tried to be for my younger siblings.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
I’m currently working on a master’s degree, which I’ve been pursuing for the past five years, and it’s something that likely won’t fully pay off for several more years. But I’ve learned that the things that take time are often the most meaningful. This degree is more than a credential; it’s part of a bigger journey of learning, growth, and impact. I’m investing in my future, in the communities I care about, and in the kind of leader and storyteller I want to become. It’s a slow process, but I believe it’ll be worth it.
