Sofia Veronica shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Sofia, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
All 3 are important to me. But if I had to choose one, it would have to be Integrity. Honesty is so crucial. Truthfulness and sincerity matters. As the old saying goes. Actions speak louder than words. People who are consistent with who they show themselves to be is worth more than anything else. With integrity comes respect. If there is respect, there is honesty. It all just goes hand in hand.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sofia Veronica. Since our last interview a lot has shifted. Life is beautiful nonetheless. I took a chance on myself and I decided to take my skills as Chef and work with kids and young adults with special needs and those struggling with feeding difficulties. I am working with those who have ARFID (Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder) and other eating disorders. Food and cooking is my love language. I just want to help anyone who needs assistance and guidance and have a good relationship with food. The reason this is so special for me and I decided to go this route was because of my youngest son. He has been my motivation. My awesome kiddo is 8 now. He was diagnosed with Autism at 2 years old. Along with dyspraxia and sensory processing disorder. He struggled with ARFID for a few years. I decided shortly after his diagnosis that I would become his therapist and help him through any challenges he faced. I got certified and We learned together. Feeding therapy was a must. Early intervention was key. He now eats like teenager. Has such an appetite and loves to try new things. Because of how well he did with my methods. I just knew I had to share my knowledge and help anyone else like him or with any Feeding struggle. It became my mission. I call myself the Helping Chef. My dream is to open a small café that is tailored for for those with ARFID and other sensory challenges as well as other eating disorders. Making it a place where food is fun and the environment is safe and inviting. Everyone deserves it!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
Ive always believed in God. Ive always believed in the power of prayer and his word. However, it wasn’t till just about 3 years ago that I truly felt my relationship grow with The Lord. Deciding to make changes in my life that were more in line with my love for God. Removing things and people and places that didnt serve me. What I noticed that the closer I got to God, some people just removed themselves. My life has been so peaceful. Quiet. Happy. I feel like all that I have been through and all the challenges have truly shaped me and helped me see the bigger and more beautiful picture. One of my favorite Bible verses is Philippians 4:13 I can do all things through God who strengthens me. Not perfect. Mistakes have been made. But my intentions are always good and I continue to want God in my life and believe His plan is greater than anything I can do alone. Its about having trust and letting the fears go. God is so good!
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
It might sound silly to some but I have never traveled aside from a couple times in my whole life. And Vegas doesnt count! lol But yeah, it wasnt til recently that I realized I have somehow not allowed myself to travel because I am afraid to leave my kids and be so far away. I did however have a good long talk with myself and God. And I will be planning a trip soon. I have to start living more and not be afraid to do so. Tomorrow isnt promised.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am determined to open up my sensory friendly café no matter how long it takes. I want to create and provide a beautiful safe space for anyone who has specific needs, sensory difficulties and just want a cozy place to hang out, Have a delicious meal and be around others with similar needs. Even a place where other coaches, therapists and educators can provide their services in a calm and comfortable setting. A place where we are all united and happy!
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that if all Im remembered for is Love and light, then Ive done my job. I pray people know that even throughout moments that weren’t my best…that the evolution of who I am and what I have created til now has shown that I am just a woman, a mother. A friend and teacher who wants to be a safe space for anyone who needs it. I am great listener and I love to help and comfort people. Im a nurturer. I will always advocate for myself and others. I will always stand up for anyone who’s voice isnt being heard. Working with disabled kiddos and young adults has given me a new type of strength and to stand up for them and help them succeed in anyway I can is my hearts passion. We are all God’s creations.
