An Inspired Chat with T-Chronic of Santee

We’re looking forward to introducing you to T-Chronic . Check out our conversation below.

Hi T-Chronic , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Aside from creating music, I am really passionate about surfing. Growing up I went surfing periodically. My sister taught me around the age of 13, I would hit the beach from time to time an paddle out. However in this past year, I have been going out a lot more. My friends Danny, Jesus and myself like to meetup in Ocean Beach by the pier and catch some waves. It’s always a super fun time, especially with friends. Following our surf sesh, we usually walk up to Johnny Manana’s for some tacos and beer. The ocean is so peaceful. The stress and anxiety I feel sometimes get ditched on shore. I feel rejuvenation out in the water and weight lifted when I catch the final wave back in. Also on a side note by friend Danny has a rad band called “Bellafiore,” they are super talented!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
You can find all of my music by searching “T-Chronic” on any music platform. I have a new album dropping on August 27th and will be having a release party at The Holding Company that night. I first begin rapping in 8th grade when I discovered a rhyme dictionary in my teacher’s classroom. From there, I was instantly intrigued with lyricism and began diving into the discography of the greats. I am inspired by Eminem, KRS-One, Wu-Tang Clan, Gang Starr, Rakim, Wax, and many more. My music sends a message of unity and love, which I believe the world needs that more than ever. I recently formed a band called Sound of Sage which is a Reggae/Folk/Hip-Hop band. We will be releasing out second song titled “Seed” later this month!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom has always seen the potential in me even when I could not. She has seen my evolution as a person and as an artist. There have been times on my path where I’ve been overwhelmed, stagnant and discouraged. Through the roller coaster of life she has always pointed me back on track with words of affirmation as well as pointing my eyes to see how far I’ve come. She has also helped me meditate on the future beauty that has yet to come into fruition.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could sit beside my 15 year old self, I would tell him to be unapologetic when it comes to being yourself, don’t be reluctant to set boundaries, and to never listen to the opinion of haters. Sometimes people with a big heart let it bleed all over the place, spread themselves too thin and don’t have any fruit for themselves at the end of the day. It’s vital to look out for yourself as well and in return, your table will be abundant for others.

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
There’s an artist by the name of Wax. My friend showed me his music when I was in 8th grade. The first two songs I heard were “New Crack” and “Limousine.” I was instantly hooked by his flow, lyricism and witty style. He quickly became one of my favorite artists of all time. It just so happened that the universe crossed our paths. I got to meet him a few times. I met him at a show of his and we took a photo together, I could not have smiled larger. Following that we met up one day and had coffee and chatted about music and artistry. We ended up doing a song together titled “Blessed.” Wax is seriously one of the coolest human beings I have met in my life. It is so awesome to be a fan of his music for so long, meet him in person, and see that he is completely genuine and kind. BIG SHOUT OUT TO BIG WAX!

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
When I’m gone I just want the message of unity and connection to be felt as much as possible. I hope to be remembered as someone who radiated light to others, set an example or righteousness, and provided dope rhymes that people can relate to.
