We recently had the chance to connect with Angharad Wilmer-Chappell and have shared our conversation below.
Good morning Angharad, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
I am proud of building the life I have now. I dreamt of emigrating to America from a young age and once I was led to the career path that was meant for me, I set out to achieve my goal. Ten years later, I made it and never gave up.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, my name is Angharad – also known in my industry as ‘Lady Chappelle’. I am the proud owner of House of Lady Chapelle – a place for art, tattoos and beyond.
I am British and moved to San Diego in June 2023 in pursuit of a life I dreamt of since a child.
I am a tattoo artist who specializes in animation tattoos and I also create art off of skin in the form of prints, stickers and temporary tattoos, commissioned paintings and more.
Tattooing has been my life for ten years and it really has given me everything. I tattoo a lot of Disney themed pieces and this huge passion of mine is what connects me to my amazing clients and opportunities I have been fortunate to experience.
Right now, I am working towards obtaining my green card here in California and once I have that, there will be more opportunity for me to explore other areas of art that I would love so much to explore.
I have a keen interest in clothing and fashion and I am in the very early stages of creating a line of tees and who knows what else.
My dreams for the future are to expand my brand, beyond tattooing and share my art with the World in a big way. I wish upon a star daily, that Disney may one day hire me to be a licensed artist with them too! DREAM BIG!
Art is who I a
Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Ten years ago I started tattooing and it has gone so fast. I thought initially that this is all I would ever want to do but now, I see that there is so much I am passionate about and want to explore. While I believe, I will always do tattoo art, I don’t believe that this is all I can do and I feel that the blessing of my tattoo years so far is a catalyst for other possibilities that lie ahead. I would not say tattooing has ‘served a purpose’ but it has certainly been an exciting vehicle for getting me here, to America, where I know I am meant to be.
What fear has held you back the most in your life?
The fear of rejection. Rejection is tough and we have all experienced it in some capacity. In my younger days I wouldn’t ask for things for fear of looking stupid or being laughed at. There are jobs I haven’t applied for and emails I haven’t sent in case of rejection and the sadness that comes with it or not feeling good enough.
Now, I see rejection completely different and I see it as opportunity and a spiritual sign that there are better things out there!
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
Sounds kind of obvious, but Walt Disney. That man had a huge dream and the odds were stacked against him to succeed and at a time that was far more challenging. His tenacity and determination never wavered and it paid off. Walt believed in dreaming big and always trying something even if it failed the first time. His spirit lives on and in some way, I feel that he is guiding me.
Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope that people would see me as an example of having a dream, believing in it whole heartedly and being determined to achieve it. I also would like to think that people would say I was a good listener, easy to talk to and someone who stood by her morals and values.
