Ari Linn of Fletcher Hill on Life, Lessons & Legacy

Ari Linn shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Ari, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
For a long time, I’ve had this idea to expand my business and build a community in a huge way. I never thought it was possible, not because the idea was too big, but because I felt too small. I’ve always wanted to open salon suites, but not just any run-of-the-mill suites where multiple beauty professionals offer the same services.

I’ve dreamed of creating salon suites that feature one professional from each beauty industry. It may sound crazy, but here’s the vision: a consumer could walk into my building and get a full range of services—all without leaving. They could get a mani, pedi, blowout, glam, tan, and even a tooth gem, maybe a tattoo all under one roof. Think of it as a true beauty lab.

The key is offering a variety of services—most salon suites only offer a limited range of the same services. This not only makes it more convenient for the client but also helps service providers thrive in their specialties. With a variety of offerings, every professional can stand out in their craft while lowering their cost to acquire a customer.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Consider me your beauty bestie! I’m Ari of Party with Ari. I have a passion for making makeup accessible and fun by teaching classes, enhancing your natural beauty through makeup bookings, and soon, blessing your makeup kit with my cosmetics.

Before becoming a makeup artist, I was actually a makeup teacher! I teach classes through the lens of your facial features, eliminating any guesswork. I truly have the best job in the world. I can’t believe I get to help people feel pretty every day.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
For most of my childhood and into my young adult life, pretty much until my mid-twenties, I thought I was destined to be a cog in the corporate system. While being there voluntarily is essential and rewarding to our world, being there out of default is the opposite. I believed I was meant to be there because I wasn’t destined for anything more. I didn’t have dreams because I didn’t think I was special. I didn’t think for myself because I didn’t consider my ideas great, or even good. Little me saw myself working a 9-5 until the day I died, tolerating life until it was over.

Now, my view of myself has been completely reframed. I now know that my talents, paying my bills, is a beautiful blessing. I now know that I have something beautiful and vibrant to offer. Now, I feel it’s a disservice not to see my visions come to fruition.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
I actually think the lack of success is not only the most effective way to learn, but also pivotal to long-term, real success. Failing reveals so many more facets of an idea than it working ever does. When everything goes to plan, did you actually learn anything besides that it worked? Or, when working towards a goal, does a hero in a hero’s journey need the obstacles? I like to think of failure as character development. It’s in those moments of struggle and setback where we truly grow—both in skill and mindset. The bumps along the way show us what’s working, what needs tweaking, and where we can push our limits. Success becomes sweeter because we’ve earned it, and we’re stronger because we’ve learned from the failures. Without failure, we wouldn’t truly know what it takes to succeed, and that knowledge is invaluable.

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? How do you differentiate between fads and real foundational shifts?
The best way to distinguish between a fad and a true foundational shift in beauty is to ask: Is the trend universal? Can this current technique or application be applied across all beauty standards? Fads are often fleeting and based on aesthetics tied to a specific moment in time. They might be popular now, but they won’t stand the test of time. Foundational shifts, however, are timeless, foolproof, and always effective. They are rooted in the principles of beauty that have been passed down through generations. For example, underpainting—a technique that’s been around since the 90s for a reason—is a perfect example of a foundational shift. The idea of placing your pigmented cream products like contour, bronzer, and blush under foundation creates the illusion of glowing from within. This technique isn’t just trendy—it’s a method that enhances natural beauty and has stood the test of time.

Makeup, in general, has been around for millennia, and the real trade and true techniques will always universally work. They adapt and evolve but maintain the same core principles that have been proven to work on every face, every time.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Yes, I absolutely feel like I’m tap dancing to work every day! I still can’t believe I get to help facilitate confidence in people. Making others feel pretty is not just a job for me—it’s a vocation, and I truly couldn’t be happier to do what I do. Even on long days with back-to-back clients, I love showing up and creating beautiful moments for everyone. There’s nothing more fulfilling than seeing my clients light up, knowing I’ve contributed to their confidence and self-love. I’m beyond grateful to be in a career that brings so much joy, and I wouldn’t change it for the world.
