Art & Life with Aaron Aranda, Richard Aranda, Austin Denison, and Christopher Wentz

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Aranda, Richard Aranda, Austin Denison, Christopher Wentz.

Aaron, Richard, Austin, and Christopher, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Reasons Above All started up in high school during the apocalyptic year of 2012 with Aaron Aranda on guitar and vocals, his cousin Richard Aranda on drums, and his friend Christopher Wentz on guitar (currently on bass). We’ve gone through numerous changes that nearly broke the band, but the sounds of rock and heavy metal and desire to create music kept the project going. The current line up now includes guitarist Austin Denison that Aaron met in college at the University of La Verne. Reasons Above all have always had a strong work ethic and DIY attitude. It’s led to the construction of a home studio, the self-recording of the band’s 1st CD, and it’s what keeps the band going today.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
We write original hard rock music because the energy of the genre is unlike any other when performing live, and it is what everyone in the band grew up listening to. We also taught ourselves the art of recording our own music to have complete control over our productions. It is our form of expression and outlet for our creativity. We view music as a universal language that brings people together as it brought the current band together, and it is for that reason that we desire to share it with any and everyone. Our main logo is skeleton hands holding flowers that were created by Aaron’s twin sister Natalie Aranda. The artwork’s juxtaposition of living flowers in dead hands represents the band’s process of creating something new against all odds.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities, and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
We definitely recognize that in the music industry it can be hard to return a profit, but it is important to stay dedicated and invest any time you can to work on your craft. We’ve encountered numerous musicians that balance school, multiple jobs, and even families along with their music. If a musical path is really right for you, then you’ll keep going, for the process itself will weed out those who don’t have it in them. That being said, music and art are much more than a career path in attempts to make money. It is a quest for fulfillment and satisfaction in creating something unique to you, and that is truly priceless.
