Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyonka Owen.
Alyonka, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was fortunate to grow up traveling and through travel, I fell in love with photographing the sights around me. I wanted to capture those memories. Travel photography will always be near and dear to my heart and I love to adventure to try to get the perfect shot. I recently began portrait photography for a similar reason. But instead of capturing those memories for myself, I wanted to capture that person for a moment in time, for their memories and for their loved ones.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Portrait photography is so important, especially when it is printed. You want to be able to hold, cherish and pass down those images throughout the generations. I want to photograph people the way their loved one see them. Sometimes we carry so much baggage about ourselves but we can’t let that stand in our way. We need to exist in photos.
For my landscape work, my goal is to use my images to try to transport you there. I want you to feel the awe and wonder I felt in the moment.
Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
In the beginning, it can be so easy to hide behind feeling like you don’t have the best gear or enough equipment. But it’s important to focus on gaining knowledge, not things. So focus on learning your craft!
