Today we’d like to introduce you to Anniessa Glover.
Anniessa, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I am a creative visionary and multi-passionate artist hoping to bring positive light and original work to the world. I got my start as a performer with dance at only two years old. Later I began acting and completely fell in love with physical expression. After training with world-class teachers, choreographers, and coaches in my high school years, I shifted focus from live performance to on-camera work.
I signed as a model and actress with BMG Talent in 2013 and have been pursuing work in Los Angeles ever since. I’ve worked on TV shows, commercials, and many print campaigns. I now thrive in my niche as a petite model, representing and serving a large group of under-represented women.
Being around so much beauty and talent really sparked my interest in professional makeup. I got certified back in 2014, and I’ve been lucky enough to have incredible opportunities in the professional makeup industry ever since. Currently, I work as a beauty video producer for a large media company in LA and create viral, branded digital content.
My mission is not only to share my art with the world as a performer, model, and makeup artist but to encourage others to share their talents as well. I hope to inspire, entertain, educate, and empower people to step into their most vibrant and creative self.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My main focus for this season of my life is to tap into my creativity and pull inspiration from the rich experiences (and even the tougher times) to create beautiful work. That work manifests in a couple of ways: photos, videos, and in-person events. Being a multi-passionate creator, I have never been creatively satisfied with making only one kind of art. That is why I express myself in so many ways (modeling, acting, and through makeup artistry).
The work that really drives me the most out of everything I do is providing makeup services for others. It is my chance to bring out the inner beauty in them that sometimes hides behind their own self-doubt, fear, and harsh societal norms. I enhance their faces with what I call “pixie dust”-an ode to my days of working for Disney- to show them the best version of themselves outwardly so that they have the confidence to let their inner beauty shine just as brightly. The people I work with inspire me in so many ways. But above all, I most love the change I see in them when they FEEL beautiful or when they step into a role I’ve helped them create with makeup.
What responsibility, if any, do you think artists have to use their art to help alleviate problems faced by others? Has your art been affected by issues you’ve concerned about?
The world today, especially in this digital age of information and accessibility, makes being an artist easier and harder all at the same time. There is so much more awareness and acceptance of different kinds of art from all over the world and all walks of life being shared over the internet. It is a beautiful thing to reach others by the masses from anywhere, all in an instant. But that comes with some extra responsibility and political implications that can’t be ignored. Everyone, artist or not, has to be aware of the way they and their work are perceived in this era of “Influencers.”
Those in the world of makeup artistry are no exception because there are such heavy implications with the messages and photos of beautiful models being distributed to younger generations. I personally try to stay as aware and holistic about what I share as possible for that reason. But at the same time, true art is not something that can or should be modified in its core essence because art exists just as much for the creator as it does for the spectator.
