Art & Life with Cliff Davis

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cliff Davis.

Cliff, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I studied Cinematography at University of Central Florida. Since then, I deviated into design for web and mobile apps, all the while still shooting still pictures. Through design, and missing my passion of creating looks with light and textures, I got into 3D art. Now I have taken a full circle back to cinematography–in full pursuit. Though, I still dabble in 3D and still photography. Design is my least favorite, where it’s less creative and more tied into marketing and business. Art is about thought and emotion. Design is about usability and functionality.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I don’t have a specific emotion or feeling that I want the viewer to feel, as long as they feel something. A longing for youth, the sentimentally of love and happiness, the thrill of excitement, or even fear. I just want to make people feel something that lies dormant and unnoticed from within. Most of my inspiration comes from my childhood, trying to capture the naive joy in life. From the imagination to the perspective of an innocent mind untethered by realities.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Haha, when I figure it out I’ll be sure to let you know. The struggle is real and hard. When I make things I have to get up extra early or stay up extra late. It’s an endurance test. A marathon. Just do little by little and overtime those small pieces turn into larger pieces. Make sure you love what you’re doing or else you can’t keep up the run. Burnout is real, so take breaks, get out, exercise different areas of interest. Your art will be that much better from it.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
