Today we’d like to introduce you to Drew Quizon.
Drew, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was inspired in the early years of my life behind a camera but had sought after a career because of the mindset of a starving artist was never appealing. Due to life’s circumstances, I lost both of my parents suddenly during my early college years. It was a complete wake up call. It was then I realized to pursue something that would fulfill me and to share my gift of perspective with others. Relationships and storytelling are now my drive for photography. My life has always been behind the camera and I have always been enthralled with the idea of stopping time, capturing a story and showing it from my perspective. Just about everywhere I went, I took my camera with me. I mean, I was the person that slowed everyone down for a photo or drift away from the group to get a specific image. Whether it was of scenery, people, fashion, details, I captured what I saw differently.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
As a photographer, I specifically thrive when working with people. It is a wide spectrum, but I enjoy portraits, fashion, lifestyle photography. I love creating trust and relationship with whomever I work with as I like to bring out the best in people and capture it unlike they have been before. My tagline has always been ‘A Reflection of You’ and even my logo shows it. Often times people cringe when they think about having their photo taken, so with joy I love making people feel comfortable able capturing them at their best. My favorite part is after the shoot and I have clients get to hold their photos and are overwhelmed with emotions of joy, laughter and tears – seeing them that manner, I would not trade that!
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
Success to me is the fulfillment of creating and doing what I enjoy, the ability to inspire others. Of course, receiving the recognition and means to focus on continuing making art is essential to succeeding as well. What continues to keep artists motivated is being original and hungry. Inspire others, I believe once someone starts to imitate or mimic your work as an artist, you have succeeded.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
As of now it is just my studio in Poway, website and social media platforms. Also, they are available as wall art for purchase.
