Art & Life with Erika Moreno

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erika Moreno.

Erika, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was raised with family members who worked in the events industry, specifically my aunt – who also styles and coordinates her own events. So event styling came very naturally; however, I didn’t discover it until a few years ago when I decided to plan a baby shower for my cousin. As one normally would, I jumped onto Pinterest to get some inspiration. I had no idea what I was doing, but I planned and coordinated everything. I even called out of work a day before to make sure every little detail was perfect (it was worth it). I quickly learned that I had a talent for it and that it was something I loved –which was most important to me and something I could make a career out of one day.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
Event Styling and Design allows me to focus on the look and feel of someone’s special day, whether that be styling a table setting for someone’s wedding day, creating a photo booth for their child’s first birthday party or making a simple centerpiece for a dinner party with friends. I focus on all of the big and small details that make an event so personalized and special.

I love hosting people or events whenever I can. It allows family and friends to come together and enjoy each other’s company. So to be able to help create a personalized experience for others to host their loved ones really make me happy!

In your view, what is the biggest issue artists have to deal with?
One of the biggest challenges I think artists face today is building genuine community. While social media has brought us all amazing opportunities and online friendships, I also think it can be hard to step out of that bubble, step into reality, and make in-person connections. It’s important to look at the people you have near you and meet up with your local creatives. Share ideas, give advice, and build eachother up. I’ve been fortunate enough to meet some amazing local creatives that have shown me nothing but genuine love and support, and I can’t express how much that has helped me.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
You can find my work on Instagram (a website is to come soon, I promise!). I’m a firm believer of supporting local businesses, and that doesn’t necessarily mean hiring or purchasing from a local. It can be as simple as showing some love on social media by commenting, liking, or sharing what I create. If you or someone you know is having a special event, feel free to reach out. I’m always happy to meet new faces- especially at coffee shops!
