Art & Life with Harrison Weathers

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harrison Weathers.

Harrison, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
A small-town kid from Boonville, Missouri that drew all the time, and was just looking for a way to make some money doing so. I drew caricatures for a while at Six Flags St. Louis, and eventually moved to Warrensburg, MO (University of Central Missouri) to study Graphic Design and Illustration. A few buddies and I had an idea to move out of Missouri and that brought me out here to California and working for OOPM Creative in downtown San Diego as a Graphic Designer and Illustrator.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I have always been inspired by graffiti artwork and of course I was influenced by cartoons as a kid. I always try to bring a fun energetic style to my work to really excite the viewer and keep them entertained. Humor has always been a huge thing for me and I try to find some way to incorporate that into my work. I’m huge into making something that someone hasn’t seen before and bringing a fresh vibe to the viewer. Posters, murals, lettering, character design are things that inspire me on a regular basis.

Any advice for aspiring or new artists?
Advice I have for artists is keep being yourself. I have tried plenty of times to emulate other artists and carry some of their styles to my work, but it always comes out feeling unauthentic and ends up looking like garbage. The style that you end of creating could possibly be something that is completely new and groundbreaking, it just takes trial and error until you find that certain way of creating artwork.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I don’t have too much work in exhibition form but You can check out my website at: harrisonweathers.com. My Instagram handle is: Weathers Feathers. You can also search my name on bechance.net and find more of my stuff on there.
