Today we’d like to introduce you to Katrina Brcic.
Katrina, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
My journey with permanent makeup started as a client in 2005. My eyebrows were transformed by Linda Olner in White Rock, British Columbia. At that time permanent makeup was not as popular as it is now. I was hesitant to get it done, but I knew I would be so much happier not having to worry about drawing in my eyebrows every day. Linda treated me well and made me feel comfortable, I always wanted to thank her for the life-changing experience. I went back years later to see her but sadly she had retired, I would love to see her again and tell her how much of an influence she had on me. It was her energy that sent me down this career path, my experience with her was everything. I’ve had my brows done by a couple of other artists since and none of them showed the same integrity and compassion. In this line of work, it is important that you have these qualities.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am the Owner/Artist at Lift Permanent Makeup in Dana Point, California. Originally from Vancouver British Columbia, I am an Interior Designer turned Permanent Makeup Artist. I love getting up every day to help people feel great about themselves. Nothing makes me happier than seeing how I’ve been able to boost a woman’s confidence through my work. I believe permanent makeup should be used to bring out each women’s natural beauty. I always strive for a natural look, that’s what I have created for myself and what I want for my clients!
Also, I want each client to feel special, not just another number walking through the door. My goal is to make each person completely at ease when they come in, I want them to be excited and relaxed – I want them to feel the same way I did in 2005 when I was new to this treatment. I will guide my clients and make recommendations throughout the procedure, but we work as a team to make decisions and to get the best natural results.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I’ve met other artists in the industry through being active on Instagram. I cheer on people whose work I admire and I ask questions when I’m interested in their technique. I learn something new and I get to connect with that person.
Take additional classes often – you will perfect your work and meet others that share your passion. Lastly, there are many informative groups to join on Facebook, find people in your area and arrange a meet up. There are plenty of different ways to meet other artists, you just need to put yourself out here and get involved!
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
