Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelsey Daffern.
Kelsey, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
When I was 19, I bought my first camera with my first credit card. I had no idea how to use it or what exactly I wanted to do with it but over the next year or so I learned my camera, practiced on anyone who would let me take their photo, taught myself how to shoot in manual and how to run a business. I always had a huge interest in “taking pictures” I just didn’t quite think I could turn it into a career until I did. I have now been in business for over seven years and have had thousands of incredible people trust me in documenting the most intimate times in their lives. My husband and I bought 20 acres of property a few years ago and built our home on it, which includes my home studio. I am now able to photograph in my studio & on my property and am also lucky enough to stay home and raise our boys at the same time. I couldn’t feel more blessed to call this my job.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a natural light wedding & boudoir photographer. While I specialize in weddings and boudoir I also absolutely love photographing families, newborns and really anything else. Interacting with people and telling their story through photos gives me so much joy. I truly feel like I have found my passion. Life is happening so quickly around us, and my hope is that the photos I take for my clients will be something that they will treasure forever. I want them to look back on their wedding photos as they celebrate each year of marriage, I want mothers and fathers to cherish the photos of their babies long after they aren’t babies anymore. I want a woman to see an image of her body that I took and be in awe of her own beauty. I believe that photographs are one of the few things that become more precious to us with time, and I love that I am able to give those to my clients.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
I belong to a few different Facebook groups with local photographers & women creatives, and I love them! They often have meetups and coffee dates and shootouts where we all get together and photograph each other or models just for fun. I’ve met a lot of really awesome people! I’d say join any local groups and get out there and attend the meetups, you will have a ton of fun!
