Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Jucha.
Laura, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
Upon graduating from the University of Texas at Austin, I spent 30 years as a Mortgage Broker here in San Diego.
I was the one who always had a camera nearby. I’m the one who took the family photos at events, documented my neighborhood growing up and of course of my own children. I really enjoyed taking my camera skills to a new level learning to take action photos at soccer games as both my girls played Club and High School Soccer at SDA. I also really enjoy landscape photography and loved to take my camera and find a sunset, a beach or a flower field.
A few years back, I decided that I would give up the mortgage industry and look for something new. I didn’t know what that would be. Many friends suggested I do something with my photography. It took me a little while to figure out what that would look like, but I finally did it! I am now specializing in headshots and personal branding; family photos, multi-generation sessions, high school seniors and college grads. I have really enjoyed the process and meeting new people. In this day and age where record numbers of photos are taken on cell phones every day never to be seen again, I love taking legacy portraits that will stand the test of time printed to be seen and remembered for generations.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My goal is for my work to be a reflection of you. When someone says that I really captured their personality in a portrait, that is the ultimate compliment. I try to make each session special and personalized to reflect how each person would love to be photographed.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
My suggestion would be to connect with others with similar interests in your area. There are often meetups or educational groups to help you meet others with similar interests. I have done that with my photography through an online education facebook group and have developed many friendships here locally as well as worldwide. It is awesome getting to know other photographers and sharing our successes, challenges, ideas and tips with each other.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
My work can be seen on my website at www.laurajuchaphotography.com. You can see some of my landscape work as well as my portrait work under client galleries. I am on Facebook and Instagram as @laurajuchaphotography. I hope you will follow me!
