Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicola Di Liegro, About NDL,
Nicola, About, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was born and raised in a small medieval town by the seaside in Italy, after compulsory schooling, at the age of 19 I moved to Rome to study as a cartoonist and illustrator at the International School of Comics, at the same time I became interested in computer graphics, After finishing my studies in Rome and already with a little experience in the field, I moved to Milan at the age of 24 to study visual communication and design at the European Design Institute… a world full of opportunities opened up to me; it wasn’t easy at all, I always made sure to do it on my own, working, and providing for my needs.
I did not have time to finish my studies in Milan that I started working in printing enterprises, graphic studios, advertising agencies, editorial offices, acquiring many skills, I got back to my home town and opened up my first visual communication studio, a part of my customers were my fellow citizens, and a British part, and almost immediately I worked for a company based in Florida as an artist / graphic designer / photographer… In 2006, I began my adventure as a designer in fashion companies, then in 2009 I moved to Florida to grow exponentially my client’s business exponentially, I came back to Italy and resumed my work as a designer in clothing companies and communication agencies, Since 2016 I run my own Agency and Art Studio.
Nothing was easy, fantastic moments alternated with hard times, I never stopped believing in myself, I never stopped learning new things, I never stopped drawing and painting!!! Painting for fun, without having any kind of expectation is the best thing you can do, from them come the best results and satisfactions you cannot imagine at all!!! It is worth the joy!
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I create 3d waves with wood, sand and colors, because it makes me happy, because I feel free, because when I no longer listen to the other people opinions, I grew up! When I do not create waves I dedicate myself to represent music, sport, and my passions, with colors by combining abstract and figurative.
“The purpose of Art is bring joy to the people; the power of art is to reassure, must encourage those who are tired, regenerate and raise mood to those under tension. The artist’s desire should be to bring joy and happiness to others.”
Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
The difficulties are commonplace, do not be discouraged ever, even when you seem to find yourself in a deadlock, do not be beaten, it all depends on you and not on the others, never lean on anybody, get up by yourself, be mentally independent, carry on your art just because you love doing it and because it makes you feel good, be correct with yourself and others, develop empathy and humanity, always leave open doors, if there is a step back to do for start again, oh well… do it! Be shining and wise, if you do not have money to buy the colors and canvases, and the only option is to go to work like waiter, or handyman, or clean up a basement or a garage or whatever, oh well… do it! Be honest with yourself and others, have faith in yourself, difficulties are needed to make us grow and be happier!!!

How people can help me? Good question, specifically you could organize an artistic tour around in San Diego’s art galleries and schools etc. with exhibitions and painting workshops, it seems a good idea right? In the meantime, love your children and your family and be happy in spite of the great difficulties that life puts in front of us!
