Art & Life with Roxanne Rimando

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxanne Rimando.

Roxanne, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have been doing photography for years now but recently decided to expand my photography business. I would always be that one person who carried their camera everywhere and took pictures of everything. In high school, I took an AP Photography class and was also in yearbook in which made me fall in love more with photography. I received the art award for photography during my high school graduation. I had to put my photography passion on hold for a couple years because I was focusing more on college and my retail job.

Now that I am finishing college as an undergraduate majoring in Health Administration at California State University, Northridge, I finally decided to pursue my photography passion. I have photographed many events at CSUN as well as have my photos showcased on the bulletin boards on campus.

It has been over a year now that I have been doing photography more professionally. I specialize in event photography and portraits. Along with being a student and working in retail, I am interning part-time for Aura Elizabeth Photography and occasionally assisting Redondo Studios. I’ve had a lot of successful special events, quinceanera’s, debut’s, and portrait sessions. Being a photographer and getting to know my clients brings so much joy to me. I love to just capture moments that will be cherished forever.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
My focus in photography are portraits and events. I love capturing memories and special occasions in people’s lives. My specialty is capturing candid moments in which shows the laughter and personality of my clients. I embrace and capture moments for me and my clients to tell a story. Their photos will be passed down from generation to generation and each picture will share a different story. The message that I hope people take away from my artwork is to cherish every milestone with a photo that they can visually share their story with. My artwork is full of love, laughter, good vibes, and the use of God’s talent that He has given to me.

Artists rarely, if ever pursue art for the money. Nonetheless, we all have bills and responsibilities and many aspiring artists are discouraged from pursuing art due to financial reasons. Any advice or thoughts you’d like to share with prospective artists?
Being an artist comes with financial challenges especially when you’re just starting out. I am still struggling with my finances but slowly overcoming them. An advice I would give to those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns is to seek guidance from someone who has a similar background. Don’t be afraid to get a mentor and ask questions. Another advice would be to value your artwork and also your break-even number. Value your artwork because it’s your masterpiece. It’s something that you’ve created with your heart. When you figure out your break-even number, you can adjust your pricing for your artwork so that you can make a profit.

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
