Art & Life with Ryan Elijah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ryan Elijah.

Ryan, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I have always had a passion for capturing moments through my lens. It’s the unique quality and personality of every individual that I desire to bring out leaving them with a lasting impression.

The first time I picked up a camera was surreal. I still recall at the age of seven picking up the camera and wanting to see the pictures I took for everyone to see. The “ooohs and aaahs” are what encouraged me to continue with a new found passion. I’ve always loved catching others in their natural environment, candidly grasping their moment framing it to be frozen in time, always remembered.

I began Ryan Elijah Photography at the age of 16 right after working for a company called Sharp International where I photographed well over 1,000 dance and cheer teams. I fell in love with the ability to control light in different environments to depict what I was actually seeing versus what everyone else was. Photography granted me the opportunity to share with others what I saw in them.

Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am well known for my spontaneity. I go through life with my head up focused on the heavens. I believe that all are created in God’s perfect image (Genesis 1:27). During all of my photographic adventures, I strive to capture the raw image of every individual or place I encounter. I use photography as a source to see the beauty that surrounds us. When I am not shooting, you can find me exploring National Parks, going on spontaneous trips, and constantly surrounded by old and new friends.

What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Networking, Networking, Networking! I would advise people to get involved, join Facebook groups, message other artists who inspire you and seek a mentor.  My mentor is Elmer @TNKPhoto. His work has always pushed me to truly think outside “the light” TNKPhoto.com. Always be kind, share any advice or tips that you have learned, and comment on other people’s content. I have even become friends with people that I have bought and sold gear from. Lastly, it’s important to remember to help one another out, and that life is too short!

What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
