Today we’d like to introduce you to Sammy Noelle.
Sammy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I was always that kid who loved anything creative or related to art. While, I loved learning, academia wasn’t something I was ever passionate about, no matter how hard I tried to love and pursue it. For a while that left me feeling confused about the direction my life could or should be heading.
Photography has been something that has fascinated me from a young age. I found it amazing that we could so easily capture a moment in life. I never thought that I would have taken something that was always a beloved hobby to turn it into my career. That was never the plan, but 2 years ago, I surprised myself, and took the risk. At 21 years old, I left my secure office job, and I decided to start a photography business.
All I knew at the beginning of all of this was that I wanted to start a business, and I thought photography was special. Little did I know that I had found my place in combining those two things. It was as if constantly seeking for the “right” path had paid off. The past 2 years have brought challenges, rejection, and humility, but they have also brought life, growth, connection, confidence, and more than anything, purpose.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I am a lifestyle photographer, with a focus on adventurous couples and small families. The philosophy of my photographic services is that moments matter, and my desire is to capture the raw and beautiful uniqueness you possess, so you can share who you are with each person who sees your photos. Society tends to distort the perspectives we have of ourselves & others, but my hope is that what I do & how I do it will act as a mirror for my clients and collaborators, to show them the beauty & unique attributes they possess. Ultimately, my hope is to leave people feeling celebrated in their real life and love stories by creating space for them to be completely who they are, without a fear of judgement, and documenting moments that matter.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
Being fearful and lonely in the creative community is so common, and often I see it being born through competition and insecurity. I’ve experienced it time and time again myself. I think that the best way to move past that is being able to see your own value first. When you know that who you are and what you do matters, the fear of other people not accepting you or including you begins to fall away. When we realize we are valuable, we see the value others possess in a light of excitement and celebration, rather than intimidation and fear. It’s also important to remember you don’t need to wait for people to notice or reach out to you first! Reach out to people first, because most likely they are looking for people to connect with as well.
