Today we’d like to introduce you to The Suburbans.
The Suburbans are a husband and wife acoustic music duo hailing from America’s Finest City – San Diego, CA.
PT Suburban handles songwriting duties, lead and harmony vocals, and he slings a mean acoustic ax, which serves as the backbone of all Suburbans songs.
CC Suburban is clearly the looks in the band; she sings lead and harmony vocals, as well as wielding various percussion instruments and the melodica. Also, she wins the award for the biggest hair.
PT and CC have performed together for two decades, in a series of top rock bands (including current band “Matrix”). The Suburbans were born five years ago, as PT and CC wanted to not only perform their original songs but put their own acoustic, vocal-oriented spin on popular tunes by artists that inspire them. At a Suburbans show, you can expect fun, familiar music, great vocal harmonies, a little comedy, and a retro vibe.
The Suburbans present an entertaining show – musically and visually – that consists of original Suburbans tunes mixed with popular cover tunes. Our sound is generated by a single acoustic guitar, melodica, and two voices. Retro costuming is a primary part of our overall show.
We enjoy performing because it makes us feel good to be able to bring music into the sphere of others, and connect with them through the performance. Since the vast majority of songs through history are about the subject, the main theme of all of our shows is love – and that’s what we hope people take away from our shows.
How do you think about success, as an artist, and what do quality do you feel is most helpful?
At this point in our career, we are not seeking a record deal – we are rewarded when we see our audience enjoying themselves, responding to what we’re presenting and creating an energy that is bigger than the two of us. The greatest “success” we can have is the feeling we get when the fans talk to us after a show and tell us that they were moved by what we did on stage.
Essential to success as an artist is the ability to stay open to everything – to new experiences, ideas, and points of view, taking from them what works for you while putting your own original stamp on things. It’s these artists – that can overcome obstacles, and never lose sight of their goals – that will have the best chance of achieving those goals.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
We perform in a variety of venues, from private venues (e.g., Helix Brewing Co, Balboa Tennis Club) to public venues (two performances at the San Diego County Fair this year, 6/12 and 6/29), as well as private events/parties throughout Southern California. People can support us by coming out to our shows!
