Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Farris.
Tammy, please kick things off for us by telling us about yourself and your journey so far.
I grew up in Carlsbad, took every creative class I could at Carlsbad high.
I moved as a fresh adult to Vista and spent time just trying to put my shy self out there with my art. Working for a show promoter and doing some independent projects while working day jobs. The past four years have been more busy with shows and opportunities to show my work around the county.
Can you give our readers some background on your art?
I have a pretty broad body of work, but I gravitate towards illustration. Space fantasy and myth inspire me as well as the life cycle and mental health and social issues. I work with acrylic on lots of surfaces, primarily wood board and canvas. I love using odd shapes and long surfaces. I like playing with other mediums, chalk pastels, watercolor, and oil. I recently released a Greek mythology coloring book titled ‘Of Mythic Proportions’ am working on another focused on mermaids.
What would you recommend to an artist new to the city, or to art, in terms of meeting and connecting with other artists and creatives?
It’s hard being an introvert! I usually let art start the conversation; it’s a good way to break the ice. Coming to group shows can make it easier to network than starting online.
What’s the best way for someone to check out your work and provide support?
I showcase a lot of my work on Instagram and Etsy; both avenues are good for purchasing or ordering custom and original artwork. I’m in the monthly Deja Brew Lounge shows in North Park. You can often find me in Thumbprint Gallery shows at Bar basic in downtown on Tuesdays, and I have periodic solo shows back up in Vista; as well as occasionally boothing at the artist alley monthly market, both hosted by the Backfence Society.
