Carly Williams of Sorrento Valley on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Carly Williams and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Carly, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
I used to think people mainly wanted their favorite dishes on the menu, but what’s surprised me most is how much my customers want food that tells their story. Sometimes that means weaving in a family recipe, honoring cultural flavors, or even elevating a simple guilty pleasure they love. It’s taught me that catering isn’t just about serving good food—it’s about creating something meaningful and memorable that feels uniquely theirs.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Carly, the owner and executive chef of Daily Chew Catering. I wear a lot of hats—I’m the one cooking, curating menus, and yes, even the one responding to your emails. We’re all about grazing tables, fresh flavors, and food that feels like a celebration. What makes us unique is that we don’t just hand over a set menu—we love customizing everything with our clients so their food feels personal and memorable. At the end of the day, our goal is to create food people actually remember—the kind that has guests talking long after the last bite.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
My mom has always been the one who saw me clearly before I could see myself. She’s been my biggest fan from the start and has cheered me on through every business idea I’ve ever had—big or small. Even before Daily Chew Catering existed, she believed in my ability to create something special and reminded me that I had what it takes. Having someone in your corner like that makes all the difference.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I’d tell my younger self to trust the process and not be afraid to take risks. I spent a lot of time doubting whether I could turn my love for food into a real business, but looking back, I’d remind myself that the ideas that feel the craziest are often the ones that lead to the most growth—and the most fun.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would probably say that what really matters to me is creating experiences that make people happy. I care a lot about connecting with others—through food, through moments, through shared celebrations. Whether it’s making someone’s wedding day special or just brightening someone’s week with a delicious meal, bringing joy to people is what drives me.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
My husband and I just launched Hidden Hillside, our wedding and event venue in Valley Center. Alongside Daily Chew Catering, we’re pouring our hearts into creating unforgettable experiences. Right now, it’s long hours, perfecting every detail, and slowly building an amazing team to help bring our vision to life. In 7–10 years, I hope Hidden Hillside is a place where couples and families make lifelong memories, enjoying food that tells their story, with a team that’s just as passionate about creating magical moments as we are.
