Today we’d like to introduce you to Adrian Orozco.
Adrian, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was born in San Diego, California, mi first 3 years I lived in Tijuana, after that my family and I started traveling across Mexico, because of my dad’s work. In elementary school I had my first encounter with illustration due to 90’s cartoons, from that moment on I knew I wanted to work on something drawing related. In Junior High I started copying letters from my favorite CD covers. In High School many people had too much opinions on my career choice, opinions like “You’re going to starve with that career” or “Study a REAL major”. These kinds of comments were what pushed me to study accounting for one year at UNAM in Mexico City. That year helped me find out what I really wanted to do for the rest of my life, so I came back to Tijuana to study Graphic Design at UABC. My studies and few working experiences have helped me define a very particular taste for letters, including lettering, calligraphy and typography.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Most of the time my motivation is to offer a positive message for anyone seeing my work, something that pushes them to do stuff, to see the bright side and somethings just for laughs. I do it through letters, whether its digital work, print work (t-shirts, enamel pins, patches, stickers, etc.) or in a wall as a mural (which is my personal favorite). I enjoy painting a lot, I love the whole process of it, from planning to the final result, developing this kind of projects is tiring but the feeling of seeing it complete has no price.
What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Do your best and trust your work.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Some of my work painting murals include Tijuana bars like “Fresco” and “Public House”, restaurants like “WildCypress” and “Empanadas 1987” and a small gallery called “Studio 664”. On San Diego I’ve worked at the restaurant “Karina’s” in Otay Ranch, “Saffron”, “Ceviche and More” and at a local gym. Some of these murals have been in collaboration with Franko Rosas and one of them with Abigail Peña.
If you like some of my work and have a wall you’d like me to paint on, don’t hesitate on sending me an e-mail so we can work something out.
