Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Thai and Felice Trinh.
Hi Amy and Felice, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
It all started when we would bring charcuterie and cheese platters to events with our friends and family. It was so fun to pair new cheeses with seasonal fruits and jams. Sometimes we even threw parties of our own just so that we had an excuse to make fun platters such as a Mediterranean or a french fry platter. Many of our friends and family kept encouraging us to take this to the next step. After hours of brainstorming everything we could possibly think of, Joyful Platters was born! Our goal was for every client to experience joy with every bite and, of course, to be fully content. We had so much fun making these platters that we kept aiming for bigger goals such as grazing tables and events.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Our biggest challenge starting the business was sourcing. At first, we would go to endless markets and shops all over San Diego looking for just the right products. We strive to continue using the best and freshest ingredients. As rookies in this industry, we relied heavily on Instagram to get our name and platters out there. The spread of Covid-19 prevented social gatherings, which is where we thrived. We took a new approach and started tailoring more personal platter boxes to be sent and delivered. Looking back, we would say that it has been mostly smooth with a few challenges that still helped us grow as a business and as individuals.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
We offer beautifully curated platters of all kinds ranging from charcuterie and cheese boards to Mediterranean and brunch theme platters, basically anything you can think of – we can make it! We specialize in elevating the snacking experience; we are the cherry on top of dinner parties, picnics, date nights, you name it. We truly love adding that touch of joy to make people and their bellies happy. We are most proud of starting this journey together because it excites us to continue growing and learning. Anybody can buy some meat and cheese to serve, but what really sets us apart is that our platters are filled with so much love & creativity, you can see it overflowing. It’s the platter that keeps on giving!
How do you think about luck?
We are fortunate to say that it has mostly been good luck by our side. We have a strong support system that believes in us and continues to share and recommend us to their network of friends. We’ve always kept a positive and happy attitude, and it has certainly helped us with forming the lasting relationships we have with our vendors, clients, and online presence.
