Today we’d like to introduce you to Aneka Brown.
Aneka Brown is a nationally-published clothing & jewelry designer based in Palm Springs, California.
Known for my unique brand of luxurious “California AfroChic,” a term that I coined to describe my aesthetic blending traditional & modern African print fabrics w/rich jewel tones, calming California earth tones & modern designs I aim to build a unique brand of my own. I started designing five years ago after being diagnosed w/COPD & Asthma out of necessity due to weight fluctuates caused by prednisone (a steroid) used to control my condition when it flares up & not being able to find chic clothing to wear. I couldn’t find it, so I designed it & had it made. My motto is “Live Every day Of Life Like You’re On A Runway.”
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Through Aneka Brown Designs I create street-chic pieces that combined classic lines & when paired w/the vibrancy of the African Wax Cloth/Print the wearer is sure to make a bold statement when entering a room. I aim to create a sense of infectious happiness & joy through each piece I create.
Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Because my brand is built on inclusion, my models are people that inspired me! My runway has been graced by women & men of all size 0 – 22, all ages, all ethnicities, handicapable models in addition to transgender models. I want my shows to reflect the world I love & live in! We are all equally beautiful & deserve our chance to shine.
