Check out Bryna Chadwick’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryna Chadwick.

Bryna, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always had an interest in photography. Nearly twenty years ago, I started out photographing with my dad’s old Canon AE-1 SLR he purchased in the late 1970’s. I was shooting black and white film and developing all my photos in the darkroom. It was a lot of trial and error and dodging and burning to get the photos that made it all worthwhile. As the popularity of film slowly gave way to the digital age I finally jumped on board and bought a Nikon D7100. I was going to travel through Europe with my family and I wanted the freedom to shoot with abandon and not lug 40 rolls of film home. I began posting my travel photos on social media. Friends and colleagues began to take notice of my photography and urged me to shoot portrait sessions. The work that came my way was mostly high school and college graduates. I find these sessions to be an absolute joy! As a full-time elementary school teacher I have time to dedicate to my photography passion. Whether it be a professional session for a client, or traveling abroad to photograph all the beauty of the world, I am happiest behind the lens.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am a freelance photographer specializing in portrait photography. I aim to create timeless images that capture modern simplicity. I photograph with my trusty Nikon D7100 and do all my editing in Lightroom. I am a sucker for the golden hour; those few fleeting moments when the sun hangs low and casts its golden glow on my subjects. I am always striving to capture the realness of my subjects. I want their personalities to shine through.

How can artists connect with other artists?
I love collaborating with other photographers! Social media has been a great tool to stay connected with others. I am always looking for inspiration on different social media platforms. My advice is to reach out to artists who inspire you. Give compliments, and ask questions! Friendships and collaborations often begin with a simple, “Hello! I love your work…”

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
My work was first featured at the performance and event venue The Merc in Temecula, California for their photography exhibit “Behind the Lens” in 2013. One of my photos was selected as a winner for J. Peterman’s national photo contest for “Peterman’s Eye” in 2014. My work can currently be viewed on my Instagram feed: BrynaChadwickPhotography.
