Check out Carole Mayne’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carole Mayne.

Carole, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Being born in San Diego is a win in my mind! My family has lived in Leucadia since it was a rural hidden paradise.
I have painted in oils since I was 15, and have had many excellent mentors and teachers. I learned to make stained glass windows in my twenties and have designed and fabricated them for interior designers, churches and custom homes throughout my career. I also retouched photographic portrait negatives for 35 years when there used to be film! In 2108 I completed a 7’x9′ ‘cuerda seca’ hand-painted tile mural for Self-Realization Fellowship Books & Gifts Store on Hwy 101, Encinitas. I have always worked from my home and studio, and continue to teach, and create my vision of artwork.

I have been fortunate to paint and travel the world with my husband, Chris Mayne. Chris is an exceptional Avian photographer, and we have enjoyed artistic inspiration (and birds!) in Thailand, India, Bali, Europe, Hawaii, Central America, Australia, Fiji, and Tahiti.

I have been teaching oil painting for 20 years. I love the camaraderie of eager students who have become dear friends.
Continuing to learn and grow in all aspects of life, spirituality, and art is what excites me daily. I find joy in spending time with our two amazingly talented married daughters, three awesome grandsons, and family, all living in SD.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do? Why? And what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My focus is representational artwork, including portraits, floral still life arrangements and painting outdoors, plein air. The excitement in painting outdoors comes from bringing your ‘A game’ to work, because of the limited time you have to get an impression of your chosen view.
There is a certain energy that is evident in plein air painting from Nature and working predominantly from life. It compels me to keep finding subjects to capture the light, shadow, and color to make beautiful artwork,

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
I do not participate in political debates or interests and feel that ‘accentuating the positive’ offsets negativity and conflict currently inundating the airwaves, and conversations.

I create paintings and art relevant to my surroundings and travels. San Diego is experiencing population growth, and more and more land is covered over every day. There is relatively little open space left, and I feel it’s important to paint these areas of outstanding beauty as a record of our history.

I belong to a group of dedicated painters who paint outdoors and join them as often as possible.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I have my landscape paintings in Solana Beach, at the Craftsman Revival Home Furnishing Store. I have original paintings at Lotus Cafe in Encinitas and on my website, www.carolemayne.com.
