Today we’d like to introduce you to Diego Vidal.
Diego, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Like many artists, I started drawing since I was very young, in fact, one of the first memories I have is to be drawing my toys on the floor of my bedroom. At school, I always wanted to be at my home to draw. When I finished primary school, I already know that I wanted to study Art. I started learning drawing and painting, but when I was seventeen, I discovered the sculpture and I saw in that more possibilities, so when I was eighteen I started to study it in depth. Actually, I am studying Fine Arts, and I am learning more and more about art day to day.
Now, I am twenty-one years old, so I have been taking Art much more seriously for four or five years and I am clear that this is what I want and what I want to live for because there are not any memory I remember that Art is not involved.
For me, art is a style of life, I think artists have a special personality that makes them live in an especial way. I think to live doing what you love is the best way to spend your life.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
My art, for now, is an experimental art, I need to know all the possibilities to know what I want, even though I only am twenty-one years old, I already did a lot of things; drawings, portraits, paintings of different styles, sculptures… but my art is, in some way, complex, I didn´t like the simple art, I like to use my technical skills to do my pieces and do a bit of everything. I do what I feel more comfortable at the time. Even though I feel more comfortable making sculptures, I like to use ceramics, steel, wood or any other materials to create big sculptures. I think I am still discovering and developing my art.
Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think today is much difficult than some years ago because today there are a lot of different artists around the world, so is difficult to succeed. There are artists who succeed in making very different things, so is difficult to innovate.
I think cities could do some projects with local artists, like exhibitions, scholarships, competitions… or something like that to announce and help artists.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
For now, people can see my Art and learning more about me in my social networks, like Instagram or Facebook, today is the most efficient way because people all around the world can see my art at this way. I also did some collective exhibitions and I am preparing a big individual one, so people will be able to see my art live.
People could help me share my art in social networks, and of course, people can buy my art contacting me.
