Hi El, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I moved to San Diego about two years ago to pursue a new career path. I started out working as a marketing assistant for Café Sevilla, managing social media, growing their online presence and clientele but slowly fell in love with hospitality and the nightlife Industry here in San Diego.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge was adjusting to a new city. Having moved from Fresno to San Diego, there was a big change, and it was noticeable, but with time, moving from Sevilla to Hard Rock really helped make that process a lot easier. It allowed me to meet a lot of people that were instrumental to me success in this new city.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Concierge and VIP Host for Parq Nightclub and The Hard Rock downtown. I have had the opportunity to work with professional athletes, artists and other “VIP” organizing weekends, birthdays, bachelor parties and etc. I think what sets me apart from the most host is my ability to wear different hats. I have friends from different walks of life and I truly enjoy what I do, and having the privilege to work and organize some of the biggest events downtowns and being part of the best team in San Diego nightlife has helped make the experience enjoyable and a lot easier on my end.
What are your plans for the future?
Right now, the goal is to learn how to manage and run a successful venue, hotel, and clubs alike. I’ve been fortunate to work with some well-trained individuals with a lot of experience in the hospitality industry, and I feel that will propel me to be able to run my own venue in a couple of years. I believe in learning before doing, and being at Parq has given me the opportunity to learn how restaurants and nightclubs are operated on a high level, and the Hard Rock Hotel has given the insight on the hotel side of things. I feel like an intern, learning and enjoying the process.
