Check out Harmony Haft’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Harmony Haft.

Harmony, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
From a very young age art was an outlet to express all of the feelings I didn’t even understand; a place away from it all where I could just be free. In the suburbs of Maryland, I fell in love with photography in senior year of high school when no one really had cameras. The simple pinhole camera blew my mind and from there I was hooked.

Like many others, I wasn’t sure if I could make it as a full-time artist and go against my family norms. I was all over the place, switching majors like it was my job and even dropped out of a great NYC art school (in fear of the 100,000 dollar debt)! Eventually I was able to photograph as part of my work at an international non-profit organization, Global Peace Foundation. It took me around the world, from Kenya to The Philippines to Mongolia, Capitol Hill, United Nations Headquarters in NYC and other places. I was lucky to interview and photograph presidents and other powerful influencers from various countries.

I am so grateful for it all and finally last year at 31 I made the leap to full-time photographing and loving it. Though very challenging, I get to be creative everyday and wouldn’t trade that for anything.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I am primarily a photographer but also a videographer and writer. I am so drawn to these forms of art because they are such powerful tools to influence masses of people. Traveling the world and living in countries with such poverty has been the main driver for my art. Seeing unimaginable things and what the majority of people face around the world I wanted to do something. I studied environmental policy and development and am trying as much as possible to use my art to help people and preserve our beautiful world.

I photograph weddings primarily now and then donate my time throughout the year to help causes I am passionate about. I do really love wedding photography and being such an integral part of people’s most special day, giving them a gift they will cherish forever.

How can artists connect with other artists?
I am currently in the lonely artist stage as I just moved to San Diego from Maryland! I think just being proactive and putting yourself out there and trying to collaborate on projects. I am currently looking into a co-working space and hoping to join one for artists.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
