Check out Jen Remeysen’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jen Remeysen.

Jen, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I was always passionate about photography growing up. I was the girl that would bring my small canon camera with me everywhere taking pictures of anything and everything. Honestly, I never took it seriously but I wanted to capture every moment possible growing up so I could look back and relive those memories. As time went on I went to nursing school, had our son, and then my husband joined the Navy. We had our daughter while stationed in Hawaii and I was able to finish nursing school to receive my BSN, RN. It wasn’t until our next tour in San Diego that I was drawn to photography once again. My husband had to go off to training immediately following our move to San Diego and with two kids home I couldn’t work as a Nurse right away like I wanted. I began to notice all of these amazing small shops on Instagram, I fell in love with all the adorable girls’ clothing. I began to take pictures of my daughter wearing clothing from a variety of brands/small shops around the U.S. I realized how much I enjoyed photographing her that I began to photograph both my kids on our daily adventures in San Diego. My photography passion grew and grew. ultimately leading to purchasing a full frame canon camera and a new lens. I had many friends tell me to get into photography as a business and I am so glad that I listened. So here I am now, capturing memories of my children as they grow, and also for other families as well.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I want to produce real, raw, authentic emotions through my photography. I wish to create images that tell a story and capture the attention of my viewers so that they have an emotional impact from them. In a world that is saturated by photographers, it is especially tough to “stand out” from the rest. I think it’s notably important that we grow from another photographer’s art and be inspired by them. I can’t fathom how much incredible talent there is out there. It is easy to feel discouraged and compare yourself to other photographers however, I’ve been utilizing it to fuel my creativity and drive. I have become more adventurous and spontaneous with my images and my passion for photography keeps growing and growing. At the end of the day, I want my clients to feel enamored by their images and overwhelmed with happiness that will keep them coming back!

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
I think it has become tremendously hard for other artists to make a name for themselves. With so much amazing talent out there it is increasingly tough to be original and unique. I think San Diego is a great place to connect with other photographers and gain inspiration and perspectives to continue to thrive in this business!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Viewers can see my work on Facebook, Instagram, hopefully soon my website (almost finished), and other social media accounts.
