Today we’d like to introduce you to Julius Witherspoon.
Julius, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
Hi, I’m Julius and I’m 24 years old. I was born and raised in Goldsboro, North Carolina and now I am currently living in San Diego, California. Growing up, I had always wanted to do something to feel significant and to leave a mark on this world…and music is definitely that.
I grew up singing and playing music in church and that will always be my foundation, but I have always known there was something more. God blessed me with something so powerful for not only the church but for the whole world. My message is clear that no matter what or who you are…you are loved. It speaks to any walk of life and anyone with a listening ear. I’m blessed to have this tool and I just want to share it all over the world.
We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’m a singer of life, love and faith. I create thought provoking music. When something is pressed on my heart, whether it be a melody, chorus, or a familiar song, I find myself inspired to write music. I feel like it is my weapon of choice to exterminate hate and spread love because I know that is what God gave me. He wants me to put a smile on people’s faces, and He definitely wants me to show kindness, integrity and truth to the world. I hope that people see my music as passionate and positive. I want people realize that my music is different it’s what keeps the evolution of music going!
What do you think about conditions for artists today? Has life become harder for artists in the recent years? What can cities like ours do to encourage and help set up artists to thrive?
I wouldn’t say harder, but I think it’s all in what artists expose themselves to. A lot of times we hear things on the news, see things on social media that give certain artists a bad reputation…but it is strictly about what they’ve been exposed to. Yes, we are all human, but they are in the limelight and they have a big influence on the people around them. At the end of the day, I think we just need to stand behind our artists and support them. Go to the shows, share their posts, follow their accounts and let them feel loved. I really believe that is what will make them feel encouraged as an artist.
What do you think is the biggest challenge facing artists today?
Identity and Intimidation.
Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
