Check out Kayla Miller’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Miller.

Kayla, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I’ve always had a passion for capturing memories. I come from a multiracial family, and like many others, they had many hard experiences throughout the generations. From a young age I heard these stories about relatives I never met, during a time I wasn’t even of existence but it felt like I was right there through the photos my grandmother and aunt had. We would look through the suitcases FILLED with photos and that’s when I realized the importance of a photo. The stories they told. The stories they kept alive and even in a sense the people they kept alive. Now knowing the importance of photos, I started scrap booking all throughout my childhood but not until later on in life did I come to the realization that I wanted to be THE person to capture those memories for others. I wanted to tell stories through my photos so that when future generations looked at them, they too felt like they were right there in that moment when they weren’t.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Please tell us about your art. What do you do / make / create? How? Why?

Although I offer additional types of sessions such as Maternity and Boudoir( as my website shows), my focus is being a Wedding Photographer. I am officially an International Wedding Photographer as I just shot a wedding for a client last month in Cancun, Mexico and was hired for an elopement in Iceland this upcoming October! My services go past being the Wedding Photographer for my clients. From the moment I receive an inquiry from a potential client, I am 120% invested in making their wedding planning process as seamless as possible by providing a Videographer as well which is on my team and a strong list of preferred vendors such a florist, photo booth, etc. I even have specials on boudoir photos for my bride to give as a gift to her hubby to be on their wedding day in a nice leather-bound photo book! I try my best to be somewhat of a “one stop shop” for my clients so they don’t have to stress about planning their wedding but instead can enjoy the process as it should be fun and memorable for them! Another thing I pride myself on is the fact that I build relationships with my clients that years after their wedding we are still in touch and wanting to know how life is going. I consider each one a friend that I got to share a memorable experience with.

My wedding packages include engagement photos which my clients love because then they will take advantage of the products I sale like Canvases so they have those to have as decor throughout their wedding venue. I also have the option of making a gorgeous photo wrapped album book for them to proudly display in their home as husband and wife for everyone to view and re live the moments of the happiest day of their life.

What’s the message or inspiration, what do you hope people take away from it?

I would really encourage bride and grooms to be to spend time and the money on choosing the correct Wedding Photographer. You put so much time and money into planning it, that it only makes sense to invest in the one thing of the wedding that will be timeless! The flowers don’t last, you won’t wear the dress possibly again, and overtime people will come and go but the photos will be there forever. You want your kids to have something to show their kids many years from now. The day of goes so quickly and as the bride and groom you don’t get to see every time guest were having a good time or how great the centerpieces looked so you want to invest in a photographer that will capture the little and big moments for you to look at on your couch with one another so you can laugh at everything that happened on your special day!

What should we know about your artwork?

My photos tell a story. I capture all the details, all the smiles, the happy tears, and the fun everyone is having. I don’t just show up day of and snap photos. I get to know my clients, I organize a shot list and I have my eyes and ears open day of to be alert to turn and capture what is happening in that moment. I have invested a lot of time and money in my own business to understand my gear fully and strengthen my craft so that I don’t miss a single moment on your special day. My photos are creative and memorable. I am a huge believer in energy and naturalness. I won’t be that photographer that sends you a stack of photos all posed and looking directly at the camera. Instead they will capture the people you love in their element so that when a little child is told the story of that person years later, they will feel like they knew them and they were right there just as I did when I was a child.

Artists face many challenges, but what do you feel is the most pressing among them?
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?

Success only comes in one form for me and that is the level of happiness and thankfulness from my clients. When I get calls or emails that start with, “I just can’t believe how beautiful these photos turned out! You are the BEST! I will refer everyone I know your way! We don’t know what we would’ve done without you throughout this whole process. You were way more than just our photographer.” or even text messages that comes through as 15 messages because they are just so happy…that is when I feel successful. When I know I have created something that will have many generations smiling when they look at the photos, who could ask for anything else? Putting your clients first and making sure their happiness is nothing less than expectation is what is essential to being a successful Wedding Photographer
