Check out Kennedy Duke’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kennedy Duke.

Kennedy, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
My love for photography began just a few years ago in 2015. I loved to take my mom’s camera around with me and photograph the equestrian events around the area. I am a competitive equestrian myself, so taking photos of horses became my passion. We traveled up to Langley, British Columbia for the Thunderbird horse competition and it was almost impossible to pull me away from photographing the horses and riders. As we traveled to more competitions, it wasn’t until the end of 2016 that I began digging deeper into photography and the camera. I started to look into portrait photography, and equine fine art portraits and my business began to build. Today my business, Kennedy Duke Photography includes portraits, equine fine art, and equestrian event photography.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I strive to not only capture the bond between riders and their horses but capture the beauty of our equine partners. I hope the photographs that I take will create lasting memories for people. The Horse and Rider Portrait session is a styled photoshoot more focused on the equestrian rider and is tailored for you and your equine partner. If you are in search of something to place the spotlight on your horse, the Equine Black Background Portraits focus in on the equine aspect of this sport. This is my most popular feature. I want to encompass your horse’s personality and beauty with images that will last a lifetime. In addition, I offer equestrian event photography which includes anything from hunter/jumper competitions to western events. Whether it is your first competition or your first Grand Prix, you should have photographs as memories to hold onto for forever.

Do current events, local or global, affect your work and what you are focused on?
Artists are encouraged to take old trends and look at them in a whole new way. Art that is unique will have a bigger impact on the world than art that looks similar to other artist’s work. I believe that the role of artists has changed over time. Their role is to create works that stand out in a crowd and inspire people to be creative.

Equestrian is a unique sport and is not super common around the world. Photographing equestrian events, whether they’re local or international, inspires me to spread awareness about the sport. I want to push the community around me to explore new things and ideas. I aim to do this through photography by capturing pictures that catch people’s eyes and create lasting memories.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Most of my work is accessible through my website, kennedydukephotography.com. I consistently use Instagram and Facebook as well, which are both under kennedydukephoto.
