Check out Kevin Espley’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Espley.

Kevin, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I got my first camera when I was 10 years old, and since then I’ve never stopped taking pictures. Sometimes I might take too many, but good or bad, everyone has meaning and a memory behind it. That’s what makes photography so incredible to me. We get to freeze a moment in time with the click of a button, and it really is worth a thousand words. So, years from now, when I look back on my work, there’s no chance I’ll forget every little stitch in time that I’ve made.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
I’ve taken pictures of many things, but for me it really turns into art when I photograph people. Specifically, when I’m able to capture that individual’s personality or emotions. However, often times people may see themselves in a negative light, focusing on what they perceive to be bad. So, my goal as an artist is to change that perception. When someone looks back at the photographs I’ve taken, I want them to be able to truly see themselves the way they were meant to be seen.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
Don’t be afraid to reach out, to me or to any artist. Use Instagram, Facebook, email, or whatever means of messaging you can find. What’s the harm in trying to surround yourself with a community of other artists? Some will have more experience, some will have less, but everyone has something unique to offer.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
Currently, the best place to view my work is through my Instagram, @milesaheadphotography. There will also be a Facebook page, Flickr, and website up by the end of the summer. The best way to support my work is to follow my page and let me know how I’m doing. How can I improve? What would you have done for that shoot? I’m constantly looking for ways to grow, and the only way to do that is with help from other photographers.
