Check out Kris Hodson Moore’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Hodson Moore.

Kris Hodson, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I have made a career out of seeking adventure. The trail has led through Indiana, Missouri, Wisconsin, back to Indiana, New York, New Mexico, California, Virginia, and back to California. My chronic art habit demanded that I work as a waitress, cook, bartender, house cleaner, security guard, photographer, video producer, and substitute teacher.

Painting was my first love, though I am always drawn to sculpture, but the discipline required for photography narrowed my focus and kept my hands clean and my mind uncluttered.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Currently my work is photo-based. I began in the darkroom, but love the computer so my workflow is digital. (Although, I do have 8 rolls of film in the refrigerator trying to get out.) I print my own images.

My comfort zone is dream-like images that are often out of focus. When I do focus the lens, the work usually ends up addressing political topics and environmental concerns. In or out of focus, every piece reflects my inconvenient personality which tends toward introversion and dysthymia.

What do you think it takes to be successful as an artist?
Success comes when you have figured out what you are doing, why you are doing it, and how to do it well. If people are interested in what you have offered up, and want to live with your work in their homes then congratulations. If museums want to collect your work and art historians want to include you in the conversation, then you will have won the respect of your peers. That is the real success.

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
I show mostly in group exhibitions across the United States. Someday soon you will see my work on billboards and parking garages. Until then please visit my website and Instagram account.
