Check out Kym De Los Reyes’s Artwork

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kym De Los Reyes.

Kym, we’d love to hear your story and how you got to where you are today both personally and as an artist.
I grew up in the 80’s, the middle child of a large family in Southern California. I was that creative kid, always dancing, painting and drawing my surroundings and recording the world as I saw it. Art was my first love. I continued studying the arts (dancing and painting) throughout high school and in to college. I studied at California State University of Long Beach and earned my BFA. I spent my 20’s and 30’s teaching dance, getting married and having kids. Now in my 40s, I have embarked on a new adventure as a full-time artist. I am a painter. I paint every day.

We’d love to hear more about your art. What do you do you do and why and what do you hope others will take away from your work?
Growing up in the 80’s and in a blessed happy home inspired my freedom and creativity. My voice was found at an early age interpreting the coastal vibe of my culture. Beach culture. To this day there is still nothing better than the beach or the 80’s. I think the decade that formed my generation was one of optimism and energy. That joy is very much reflected in the nature of my work. My work is full movement and energy and life. I hope to capture optimism in any genre I attempt. I want my work to bring joy to people’s home. Art is very personal, I am always deeply moved when my work connects with someone.

Have things improved for artists? What should cities do to empower artists?
The art scene today is a complex one! Navigating the ins and outs can be tricky to say the least!
Rule #1. Believe in yourself and value your worth. The rest of the world will catch on.
#2. Nothing beats hard work, patience and good work ethic! Honesty goes a long way.
#3. Take your journey because you are passionate about your art, any other reason will not carry you through the struggle.
The path is different for everyone. Forge your own way!

Do you have any events or exhibitions coming up? Where would one go to see more of your work? How can people support you and your artwork?
