Today we’d like to introduce you to Lorena Charles.
Lorena, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I remember when I was young my grandmother showed me a photo album of my ancestors from that moment on I realized how important it is to keep these treasured memories. Listening to her stories about each photo fascinated me and made me very curious. I received my very first film camera when I was ten years old, it was a gift from my parents since they took notice on how much I was bedazzled with my grandmother’s photo album. Moving forward I completed my degree in Art and wanted to explore the world. Growing up in a port town in Spain I have always been surrounded by foreigners and wanted to know the differences in cultures and lifestyles. I moved in the US five years ago and I was encouraged by my friends and family to open an Instagram page to show my photography to the world. It all started as a hobby. little by little my skills improved and slowly but surely my work started getting traction and next thing I know I was receiving messages to do a photo shoot.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
In the beginning it wasn’t as easy due to the challenges I had to face such as studying and having a full time job in a new country, it is a big adjustment and an even bigger culture shock. learning the quirks of a new camera, adapting to the type of photography. It took some time to get the right support, marketing tactics and collaborating between make-up artist, florist, event planners and other photographers, but it help grow and learn about my craft.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
One word that you need to know about my work is LOVE, I document everyone as they are, the sweet souls, quiet and shy ones, energetic ones, and passionate ones. I am a lifestyle photographer, I specialized in couples, elopements, maternity and micro weddings. I am known for how I show their real beauty behind the lens. I am most proud of the trust and friendship that I gained through these sessions. Having my clients look through their gallery, happy, and full of love, are some of the few things that sets me apart.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I can see this industry getting bigger with the global pandemic on the rise and everyone is having much a more appreciation to the things we love, I can see a wave of upcoming photographers wanting to capture these treasured moments.
